‘Bake Off: Second Helpings’ Confirms First Guests for Channel 4 Premiere This Tuesday

The Great British Bake Off returns this week—and it is bringing a brand-new sister show along for the ride.

Channel 4’s revamped spin-off, The Great British Bake Off: Second Helpings, makes its official series debut this Tuesday at 10:35pm, airing immediately following the main show’s premiere at 8:00pm on Channel 4.

Replacing An Extra Slice, the new companion show gives viewers a fresh, same-night dose of tent gossip, salivating Signatures, tantalising Technicals, and sensational Showstoppers.

Knead more Bake Off? Fancy another bite of the action? Hosts Jon Richardson and Judi Love are heading up the new series to chew over all the opening-week drama with a star-studded panel.

For the very first episode, Jon and Judi welcome Bake Off host Alison Hammond and iconic culinary star Nigella Lawson—who makes her judging debut on the main series this year—to spill the tea on all things Cake Week.

Joining the sofa is comedian Harry Hill, who will look back on his own Bake Off experience as a proud holder of the coveted Star Baker Apron. Plus, a couple of this year’s brand-new bakers will arrive bearing fresh cakes in studio, much to Jon and Judi’s delight.

What the Presenters and Executives Have to Say

Speaking about taking on the new sister show, Judi Love said:

“I’ve been lucky enough to be in the tent a few times and work alongside Jon, both were pure joy! Joining the show to talk all things baking and celebrate showstopping bakes, including some unique spins sounds like absolute blast. I can’t wait to get started and of course eat a few cakes or whatever treats they may have.”

Co-host Jon Richardson added:

“Bake Off is an institution. Jo Brand is a comedy God. Together with Tom Allen, they have made a spin off show that is warm, witty and unique. I pity the poor sap they lure into stepping into those shoes.”

Explaining the decision behind the revamped format, Vivienne Molokwu, Senior Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, said:

“We have revamped Extra Slice by giving it a brand-new shape and a brand-new home. Second Helpings will be available on the same night as Bake Off meaning viewers don’t have to wait long to chew over what’s gone down in the tent. With the deliciously funny Jon and Judi at the helm we’ll all have a hilarious time talking all things sweet treats”.
