The nominations are in for the highly anticipated 2026 Wheretowatch.tv British Soap Awards, and it’s a victorious day for Weatherfield. ITV’s flagship soap, Coronation Street, has taken the lead, scooping up a host of major nominations and setting itself up as the potential big winner .
The prestigious awards, as detailed on the official voting page (https://wheretowatch.tv/soaps/vote-in-the-2026-where-to-watch-soap-awards-2/22/09/), allow fans to decide the winners.
Leading the charge is a fierce battle within the family, as Todd Grimshaw (played by Gareth Pierce) and Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) are both nominated for the top honor of Best Character. Their captivating performances and high-profile storylines over the past year have clearly struck a chord with viewers, leading to a direct showdown for one of the night’s biggest accolades.
The strong performances continue in the Best Actress category, with the beloved Sue Devaney earning a nod for her portrayal of the indefatigable Debbie Webster.

Coronation Street’s dominance extends into the writing and storytelling. Their critical and hard-hitting narrative, Todd’s domestic abuse at the hands of Theo, is a frontrunner for Best Storyline, a category won by EastEnders’ dramatic high-octane plot surrounding Kat & Zoe’s reunion last year. The soap is also nominated for Best Showstopper, recognizing another of its most impactful, event-television moments of the year.
However, the competition is fierce, and other soaps are breathing down Weatherfield’s neck.

EastEnders is a major force, particularly in the actor categories. Returning fan-favorites Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) and Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) have both landed nominations for Best Character, showcasing the immense popularity of these iconic figures upon their returns. The soap is also heavily represented in the major awards: Nigel’s dementia & final goodbye is a powerful contender for Best Storyline, and Zoe Slater is a strong nominee for Best Showstopper following her explosive return. The Square’s leading women are also honored, with the powerhouse Diane Parish (Denise Fox) nominated for Best Actress.
Emmerdale also makes its mark. Chris Coghill, who played the menacing Kev Barton, has completed a remarkable hat-trick of nominations. Coghill is nominated for Best Actor, Best Villain, and, notably, is a finalist for Best Newcomer along with Casey Al-Shaqsy. His double nomination as both actor and villain shows the impact he had during his time on the Dales. Emmerdale also boasts strong Best Character contenders in perennial favorite Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), while Patsy Kensit (Sadie King) earns a nod for Best Actress. Its powerful Bear’s modern slavery nightmare narrative is also up for Best Storyline.

Hollyoaks holds its own with nominations for stalwart Diane Hutchinson (played by Alex Fletcher) for Best Character, recognizing her depth and popularity, while Tisha Merry is a nominee for Best Newcomer. The soap’s devastating Diane’s ovarian cancer battle is a strong contender for Best Storyline, highlighting its reputation for tackling difficult issues.
The winners of the 2026 Wheretowatch.tv British Soap Awards will be announced in October. While Coronation Street is leading the pack, the ultimate decision rests with the fans.
