Gremlins 3 Gets First Teaser as Warner Bros. Delay release to 2028

Gremlins fans have finally been given a first glimpse of the long-awaited third movie — but they will now have to wait more than two years to see it in cinemas. It’s been pushed back to October 2028.

Warner Bros. has pushed the release of Gremlins 3 back by almost a year, with the film now scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 6, 2028.

The studio marked the announcement with a very brief teaser featuring one familiar face — or, more accurately, one very familiar furry creature.

The footage gives fans their first official look at Gizmo, the beloved Mogwai from the original 1984 film. In the teaser, Gizmo emerges from a backpack before the screen cuts to the new release date.

It may only be a few seconds of footage, but it represents the first official promotional material for the new Gremlins movie and confirms that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with the long-awaited sequel.

The film was previously scheduled to be released on November 19, 2027. The studio has not announced a specific reason for the delay, meaning fans now face an additional 11-month wait before Gremlins returns to the big screen.

Chris Columbus, who wrote the screenplay for the original Gremlins, is directing the new film. He is also producing alongside Steven Spielberg, who returns as an executive producer.

The project has been in development for years, with Columbus previously discussing his desire to make another Gremlins movie while remaining committed to using practical effects for the creatures rather than relying entirely on computer-generated imagery.

The new film is also being developed with Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the directing duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, and Warner Bros. has yet to reveal the full cast or disclose exactly how the new story will connect to the previous films.

The original Gremlins was released in 1984 and introduced audiences to Billy Peltzer, who is given Gizmo as a pet. Billy soon discovers that owning a Mogwai comes with three very important rules: keep it away from bright light, never get it wet and, perhaps most importantly, never feed it after midnight.

Breaking those rules leads to the creation of the mischievous and dangerous Gremlins, turning Billy’s seemingly innocent Christmas present into a nightmare.

The film, directed by Joe Dante, became a major success and developed a huge cult following. A sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, followed in 1990, taking the series in a more comedic and satirical direction.

More than 30 years later, Gizmo is finally coming back.

The first teaser deliberately gives little away, but the return of Gizmo is enough to make it clear that Warner Bros. intends to lean into the nostalgia surrounding the franchise.

For now, fans will have to wait until October 6, 2028 to see what happens when the Mogwai returns — and, hopefully, find out whether Billy has managed to keep those three rules intact.
