Netflix Announces New Comedy Show Hot or Cold Starring Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade

Netflix is bringing Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade together for Hot or Cold, a bizarre new comedy entertainment series from the team behind Last One Laughing UK.

Netflix has announced a brand new comedy game show that promises to throw its contestants into a world where almost nothing makes sense.

Hot or Cold will be hosted by comedy favourites Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade, with the pair leading a group of comedians and celebrity contestants through a series of increasingly strange challenges.

The new Netflix series comes from Zeppotron, the production company behind Last One Laughing UK, and is built around a deliberately confusing concept: contestants have to figure out what they are supposed to be doing without being given any instructions.

What is Netflix’s Hot or Cold about?

The premise takes the familiar childhood game of “hot or cold” and turns it into a full-scale comedy competition.

Contestants will enter a mysterious institution containing a succession of unusual rooms. Rather than receiving rules or explanations, players must work out each challenge for themselves.

Their only clues come from their surroundings. A room will glow red when contestants are getting warmer and blue when they are getting colder, leaving the players to figure out what action is taking them closer to the solution.

The challenges are expected to range from relatively straightforward tasks to completely absurd situations, with contestants working in pairs as they attempt to understand what is actually being asked of them.

Netflix describes the players as people who “really should know better” — an approach that fits the deliberately chaotic nature of the format.

Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade reunite for Netflix comedy

Mortimer and Ayoade previously appeared in the first season of Last One Laughing UK, Netflix’s comedy competition featuring some of Britain’s best-known comedians.

That series also included Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett and Rob Beckett, among others.

For Hot or Cold, Mortimer and Ayoade will take centre stage as the faces of a format that appears designed to test both comic timing and the contestants’ ability to make sense of an intentionally nonsensical environment.

The series is being produced by Zeppotron, which has established links with the Last One Laughing franchise.

Executive producer Chris Cohen said the show’s baffling concept was particularly appropriate for him.

“I’ve spent my entire career in telly walking into rooms and having no idea what’s going on, so it’s a delight to work with Netflix and finally make a show with that exact premise. We are thrilled to have two of Britain’s best in Bob and Richard at the heart of it all.“

When is Hot or Cold coming to Netflix?

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Hot or Cold.

The streaming service has also yet to reveal the full cast of comedians and celebrities who will take part alongside Bob Mortimer and Richard Ayoade.

More details about the contestants, premiere date and format are expected to be announced at a later stage.

For now, Hot or Cold looks set to offer Netflix subscribers another unconventional comedy competition — this time with the added challenge of figuring out the rules while playing the game.

Hot or Cold will stream on Netflix. A release date and full cast have yet to be confirmed.
