All Creatures Great and Small returns tonight, Thursday 23 October, with a new episode on 5, as Siegfried Farnon finds himself caught between local gossip and a veterinary emergency that takes an unexpected turn.
Titled ‘Give Us This Day’, the episode airs at 9pm tonight on 5 and sees Siegfried, James and Tristan join forces to help Granville Bennett treat a desperately ill horse. Meanwhile, Helen has some lessons to teach Jimmy about farming, and Mrs Hall launches an investigation into suspicious goings-on at the local bakery.
What Happens in All Creatures Great and Small Tonight?
Siegfried is becoming increasingly irritated by the local gossip, but an opportunity to focus on veterinary work soon presents itself. When Granville Bennett needs help with a horse suffering from severe abdominal pain, Siegfried is quick to get involved.
With the animal seriously unwell, James, Siegfried and Tristan work together to help Granville with the challenging case. The situation calls for their combined knowledge and experience, but the eventual outcome is not what Siegfried anticipates.
The case promises an emotional storyline for the veterinary team, with the horse’s condition putting their skills to the test. It also gives Siegfried a welcome distraction from the chatter around Darrowby, although the experience may leave him with more to think about than he expected.
Helen Helps Jimmy Learn About Farming
Elsewhere, Jimmy has questions about what it means to be a farmer, and Helen steps in to offer some guidance.
As someone familiar with the demands and responsibilities of agricultural life, Helen is well placed to show Jimmy a thing or two. Their storyline explores the practical realities of farming and the lessons that come with learning on the job.
Jimmy’s curiosity provides a different perspective on rural life, while Helen’s involvement offers an opportunity to share some of her own knowledge and experience.
Mrs Hall Investigates the Local Bakery
Mrs Hall also has a mystery to solve after becoming puzzled by some unusual goings-on at the local bakery.
Never one to leave a question unanswered, she decides to investigate for herself. However, her attempts to get to the bottom of the situation lead to amusing consequences, bringing a lighter touch to an episode that also features a serious veterinary case.
With Mrs Hall on the trail of answers, viewers can expect a little village intrigue alongside the familiar warmth and humour of life in Darrowby.
When Is the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special?
Fans will not have to wait too long for another instalment after tonight’s episode, with a new All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special set to air over the festive period.
The seasonal episode will give viewers another opportunity to return to the Yorkshire Dales and spend time with the familiar characters as the festive season approaches.
There is also more to look forward to beyond Christmas. Channel 5 has commissioned series seven and eight together, with each upcoming season set to feature six 60-minute episodes alongside a traditional Christmas special.
When Does All Creatures Great and Small Air in the US?
For American viewers, season seven of All Creatures Great and Small premieres on Sunday 17 January 2027, at 9pm ET / 8pm CT on MASTERPIECE on PBS.
The US premiere gives audiences another chance to follow the veterinary team and the residents of Darrowby as the much-loved period drama continues.
For UK viewers, however, tonight’s episode brings a fresh mix of veterinary drama, village humour and family life, as Siegfried faces an unexpected outcome while Mrs Hall follows her curiosity into the affairs of the local bakery.
All Creatures Great and Small airs tonight, Thursday 23 October, at 9pm on 5.
