Celebrity Race Across the World returns tonight with its toughest challenge yet

Celebrity race across the world 2026 route

Celebrity Race Across the World is back tonight at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer, as four famous faces and their travelling companions swap luxury for life on the road in an epic 7,500km race across the globe.

Forget first-class flights, five-star hotels and the comfort of celebrity life. Tonight, four familiar faces are stepping into the unknown as Celebrity Race Across the World returns with an adventure that promises spectacular scenery, testing challenges and plenty of emotional moments along the way.

Armed with nothing more than a map and a daily budget of just £26 per person, the teams must leave their smartphones and bank cards behind and rely on their own resourcefulness – along with the kindness of strangers – to make it to the finish line.

The ultimate destination is Melbourne, Australia, but the journey there is far from straightforward. Starting in Kuching, a vibrant city in Malaysian Borneo, the competitors face a gruelling 7,500km route across three countries and two continents, passing through five checkpoints as they race towards the finish.

And with ancient jungles, remote communities, unpredictable transport and soaring temperatures standing in their way, this is a journey that will test both their endurance and their relationships.

Meet the celebrity teams

Leading the line-up is acclaimed singer-songwriter Sam Ryder, who is joined by his best friend and tour manager, Kaz. Having spent years travelling together on tour, the pair are no strangers to life on the road. But will their experience of roughing it give them the advantage? They waste no time throwing themselves into the adventure, heading inland for a jungle expedition and an opportunity to connect with the indigenous Tae people.

Also taking on the challenge are father-and-son duo Jeff Stelling and Matt. The veteran sports broadcaster and his son are determined to keep pace with the competition, but a faltering start suggests they may have some early hurdles to overcome. Keen to escape the intense equatorial heat, the pair opt to travel by water along the coast, navigating a winding river delta as they attempt to find their rhythm.

For BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter Ella Eyre, the race offers a chance to reconnect with her childhood best friend, Nana. Now living in different countries, the pair hope their adventure will bring them closer together. Their journey begins with a taste of village life in West Kalimantan, where they are welcomed into a traditional Dayak longhouse. However, with unreliable public transport and the rainforest stretching out around them, their first major dilemma could put their decision-making skills to the test.

Completing the line-up are siblings Princess Andre and musician Junior Andre. Although they have grown up in the public eye and share a close bond, the pair are first-time backpackers, and the reality of travelling without their usual comforts soon hits home. After struggling to navigate the winding streets of Sarawak’s capital, they decide to embrace the experience, spending time in Malaysia and rolling up their sleeves to help out at a family-run coconut farm in Mount Kuwai.

A race through some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes

The route promises to be every bit as demanding as it is breathtaking. From the prehistoric jungles and indigenous heartlands of Borneo, the teams must navigate their way towards Sulawesi, with its towering limestone cliffs and dramatic scenery, before continuing towards Australia.

There, the competitors will encounter the contrasting landscapes of Queensland, from the turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef to the vast, burnt-orange expanses of the outback. The race then takes them through the sprawling urban landscape of Sydney before the final push towards Melbourne and the finish line.

But while the scenery may be spectacular, there will be little time for the teams to take it all in. With a strict budget to manage, transport connections to negotiate and unfamiliar territories to explore, every decision could make the difference between getting ahead and falling behind.

Friendships and family bonds put to the test

As the race unfolds, the teams will discover that reaching the next checkpoint is only part of the challenge. Without the convenience of modern technology or the financial safety net they are accustomed to, even the simplest tasks can become major obstacles.

For some, the experience will offer a welcome opportunity to reconnect with loved ones. For others, the pressure of the race could expose differences in personality, patience and approach. With emotions running high and some of the toughest legs the competition has seen, the journey is set to deliver moments of frustration, laughter and unexpected kindness.

Ultimately, Celebrity Race Across the World is about more than reaching the finish line first. It is a test of resilience, teamwork and the relationships that matter most – all set against some of the most extraordinary landscapes on the planet.

With 7,500km between the starting line and their Australian destination, the teams have a long way to go. The adventure starts tonight.

Celebrity Race Across the World airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
