Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan are heading into the unknown in a new episode of Rob & Romesh Vs…, as the comedy duo travel to New Orleans in search of ghosts, vampires and a possible connection with the spirit world.
Rob & Romesh Vs…: The Supernatural in New Orleans airs tonight at 9pm on Sky One. The Halloween-themed episode sees the pair investigate the city’s supernatural scene, taking part in ghost hunts and meeting people who believe they have a connection to the paranormal.
Their biggest challenge comes when they attempt to contact the dead, with Romesh hoping to communicate with one of his musical heroes, the late rapper The Notorious B.I.G., through someone claiming to channel his spirit. Whether the experience provides the answers they are looking for remains to be seen.
As ever, the premise combines genuine curiosity with the inevitable humour of two comedians stepping well outside their comfort zones.
What happens in Rob & Romesh Vs… The Supernatural in New Orleans?
New Orleans provides the setting for the duo’s latest adventure, as they immerse themselves in a community fascinated by the supernatural.
Rob and Romesh set out to discover whether there is anything to the claims of paranormal activity. Their investigations take them on ghost hunts, where they attempt to experience something unexplained for themselves, while encounters with people who identify as real-life vampires introduce them to another side of the city’s unusual subcultures.
The trip culminates in an attempt to make contact with the dead. For Romesh, the prospect of communicating with The Notorious B.I.G. gives the experiment a personal dimension, as he hopes to reach an artist whose music he admires.
Will the pair encounter convincing evidence of the supernatural, or will their mission leave them with more questions than answers?
What is Rob & Romesh Vs… about?
Rob & Romesh Vs… follows comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan as they take on unfamiliar worlds, learn new skills and attempt challenges that often seem far removed from their usual lives.
Rather than simply observing from the sidelines, the pair immerse themselves in the communities they visit, learning from experienced professionals and enthusiasts before putting their new knowledge to the test.
Previous adventures have taken them across China, France and the United States, exploring everything from traditional martial arts and competitive cycling to the world of ten-pin bowling. Other journeys have introduced them to communities united by unusual interests, including people who believe they are vampires.
The format thrives on the contrast between Rob and Romesh’s personalities, their willingness to give unfamiliar activities a go and the comic moments that emerge when their ambitions meet reality. Along the way, they sometimes discover abilities they did not know they possessed.
What else happens in the series?
The supernatural special is part of a series featuring several very different challenges.
Episode 1: Rob & Romesh Vs… Kung Fu
The series begins in China, where Romesh revisits a childhood interest by attempting to master kung fu. The pair travel to Hong Kong to train with professional stuntman Paco Yick, known for his work with martial arts star Jet Li, before visiting the famous Shaolin Monastery.
Their training builds towards a performance in the Shaolin Zen Music Ritual, one of Shaolin’s major martial arts shows. It is a daunting test for two comedians who must turn their lessons into a public demonstration.
Episode 2: Rob & Romesh Vs… Tour de France
Cycling is the focus of the Paris adventure, where Rob and Romesh are invited to race on the iconic final stage of the Tour de France.
They line up against legendary British cyclist Sir Mark Cavendish and are joined by comedian friends Josh Widdicombe and Tom Davis. Even with a head start, the challenge requires the pair to put their training into practice in a competitive cycling environment.
Episode 3: Rob & Romesh Vs… The Supernatural in New Orleans
In the Halloween-themed instalment, the duo swap sporting challenges for ghost hunting and paranormal investigations. They meet people who claim to be vampires and attempt to contact The Notorious B.I.G. through a medium who says they can channel his spirit.
Episode 4: Rob & Romesh Vs… Bowling USA
The pair head to America to learn the finer points of competitive ten-pin bowling. They receive intensive coaching from the Troup family, a bowling dynasty led by Guppy Troup, a member of the Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Fame.
Their training leads to Atlanta, Georgia, where they compete in the UBA Civil War, a televised event organised by the Underground Bowling Association.
Who joins Rob and Romesh on their adventures?
The duo receive help from a range of specialists and familiar faces throughout the series. These include Paco Yick, the professional stuntman who trains them in kung fu; comedian Josh Widdicombe, who joins their cycling adventure; the Troup family, who introduce them to competitive bowling; and Sir Mark Cavendish, who helps raise the stakes on their cycling challenge.
Each guest brings specialist knowledge to the pair’s latest undertaking, giving Rob and Romesh the chance to learn directly from people with experience in their chosen fields.
