Oasis return to their hometown for a spectacular night of rock ’n’ roll nostalgia as Oasis: Live at Manchester Stadium (2005) arrives on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer tonight at 10.50pm.

One of the biggest touring bands in the world, Oasis pull out all the stops during their 2005 world tour, bringing their electrifying live show back to Manchester for a triumphant homecoming concert at the City of Manchester Stadium. Fresh from the release of their sixth studio album, Don’t Believe the Truth, Liam, Noel and the rest of the band deliver a thunderous performance packed with classic anthems, fan favourites and songs from their latest record.

Playing in front of a huge hometown crowd, the band waste little time setting the tone, opening with the explosive instrumental introduction F**in’ in the Bushes* before launching into Turn Up the Sun and the infectious Lyla. From there, it’s a relentless run of Oasis classics, with Bring It On Down, Morning Glory and Cigarettes & Alcohol bringing the stadium to life.

There is also room for some of the band’s more melodic moments, as Noel and Liam deliver memorable performances of The Importance of Being Idle, Little by Little, A Bell Will Ring and Songbird. Meanwhile, the crowd are treated to the timeless Acquiesce, Live Forever and the enormous singalong that is Wonderwall.

As the evening gathers pace, Oasis turn up the volume with Mucky Fingers, Champagne Supernova and the unmistakable Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, proving exactly why they remain one of Britain’s most celebrated live bands.

And the night doesn’t end there. Returning for an explosive encore, the band perform Guess God Thinks I’m Abel and The Meaning of Soul, before Noel leads the crowd through the unforgettable Don’t Look Back in Anger. The concert reaches a suitably raucous finale with Oasis taking on The Who’s legendary anthem My Generation.

It’s a spectacular celebration of Oasis at the height of their live powers, capturing the scale, swagger and sheer excitement of a band returning to where it all began.
