Angela Scanlon is getting ready to become the new voice of weekday afternoons on BBC Radio 2, with her brand-new show launching on Monday 16th November.
Broadcasting live every weekday from 4pm to 7pm, Angela will provide the perfect soundtrack to the journey home, bringing listeners a lively mix of great music, entertaining conversation and stories from across the UK.
Whether listeners are making their way home from work, tackling the school run, navigating the evening commute or deciding what to cook for dinner, Angela promises to be there for it all, creating a welcoming afternoon destination where everyone has a story to share.
And she’s already counting down the days until she gets behind the microphone.
Speaking about her new role, Angela said: “I’ve been counting down to this one. From 4pm on Monday 16th November, when the day finally exhales, it’s you, me and whoever else is lurking in your car, train or kitchen. So whatever kind of day you’ve had, bring it with you: the rants, the wins and the dinner disasters. I’m here for all of it.”
A key part of the new programme will be giving listeners the opportunity to get involved, with regular features including All Request Friday. The weekly feature will celebrate the end of the working week by putting listeners’ music choices centre stage, inviting them to share their favourite songs, dedications and personal stories.
Whether there’s a special occasion to celebrate, someone who deserves a shout-out, a big weekend ahead or simply a need for a musical pat on the back for making it through another week, listeners will be able to pick a top tune and share their reasons with Angela.
Alongside the music and conversation, the programme will keep audiences up to date with everything happening throughout the day. Kirsten O’Brien and Bobbie Pryor will deliver the latest travel updates, helping commuters stay informed on their journeys, while listeners can also expect all the latest news and sport.
Angela will also round up the day’s biggest music and entertainment stories, making the three-hour programme a mix of escapism, companionship and everything listeners need to know before the evening begins.
The launch week, running from Monday 16th to Friday 20th November, will mark the beginning of Angela’s new weekday afternoon chapter on the station.
With plenty of music, familiar voices, listener stories and a dedicated Friday celebration, the new show aims to make the journey towards the end of the day that little bit brighter.
