Loose Women pulled off air today after Lorraine and This Morning are also scrapped

loose women will not be broadcast live today

Loose Women will not be broadcast live today after a power cut caused major disruption to ITV’s daytime television schedule.

The lunchtime panel show is the latest programme to be affected by the technical problems, which began overnight in the wider area around ITV’s Covent Garden studios.

Instead of its usual live broadcast, viewers will be shown a pre-recorded edition of Loose Women.

The disruption has already affected Lorraine and This Morning, turning what should have been a normal morning of live television into a challenging day for ITV production staff.

Good Morning Britain forced to fill extra time

The problems first became apparent when Lorraine failed to appear on ITV’s morning schedule.

The programme, which normally features a mix of celebrity interviews, showbiz news and lifestyle discussions, was unable to broadcast live because of the power outage.

Good Morning Britain, meanwhile, continued as normal, as it is produced from a different studio in Holborn.

Presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls found themselves staying on air for an additional half hour, with the programme continuing until 10am.

During the extended broadcast, the pair spoke to Kerry Katona about Christmas decorations, helping to fill the unexpected extra time.

However, the programme then came to an abrupt end while Susanna was in the middle of a sentence.

Following an advertising break, viewers were introduced to a pre-recorded edition of This Morning, presented by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

Rather than a live programme, the broadcast featured highlights from previous episodes.

This Morning and Loose Women also affected

The change to This Morning came despite an earlier message from Lorraine suggesting that the daytime show had been expected to return live at 11am.

That plan did not go ahead, with ITV instead opting to show pre-recorded material.

Now, it can be confirmed that Loose Women will also miss its live broadcast.

The panel show, which usually airs at lunchtime, is known for its lively discussions and rotating line-up of presenters and panellists. Regular faces include Kaye Adams, Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Denise Welch, alongside a wider group of guest presenters and contributors.

The show’s format relies heavily on live conversation, with the panel discussing the day’s headlines, sharing personal experiences and interviewing celebrity guests.

Today’s pre-recorded edition means viewers will not see the usual live interaction or discussions taking place in the studio.

An ITV spokesperson said: “following a power cut overnight in the wider area where our Covent Garden studio is based, we are unable to broadcast Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women live today. We will return to our normal schedule as soon as possible”.

ITV’s new Covent Garden studios

The disruption comes as ITV’s daytime programmes have recently moved into a new home in central London.

In September 2025, ITV Studios confirmed that The H Club Studio in Covent Garden would become the new base for Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women, with the move taking place from January 2026.

The new facility was designed to bring the three programmes together under one roof, with ITV Studios Daytime producing almost 900 hours of live daily programming each year.

The studio features a 360-degree set and LED walls, allowing the production team to change the look of the space quickly between programmes. Each show has its own bespoke environment, designed to retain the familiar appearance viewers expect.

ITV also highlighted the use of a single high-specification remote gallery to produce and broadcast all three programmes. The gallery, supplied by Gravity Media, is intended to make production more efficient and sustainable.

The move was part of wider changes to ITV’s daytime operation, with the three programmes being produced by one team using shared resources. ITV stressed that each show would remain editorially distinct.

The new location was also chosen for its central London position, which makes it more convenient for guests visiting the studios.

Good Morning Britain avoids the disruption

While the power cut has affected three of ITV’s biggest daytime brands, Good Morning Britain has continued broadcasting.

The breakfast programme is based in Holborn, in a separate building from the Covent Garden studios used by Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.

That separate location meant Susanna Reid and Ed Balls were able to go on air, although the disruption to the rest of the schedule resulted in their extended broadcast.

ITV has not yet confirmed exactly when all three affected programmes will return to their normal live broadcasts, saying only that it hopes to resume its usual schedule as soon as possible.

For viewers, it means a very different day of daytime television, with pre-recorded editions taking the place of the live shows usually expected on ITV.
