What is Our Fight For Justice about?
Our Fight For Justice is an ITV documentary featuring an interview with Henry Nowak’s family, conducted by journalist Paul Brand.
The programme focuses on the 2025 murder of 18-year-old Henry and the events surrounding the case that came to wider public attention during the trial of his attacker in June 2026.
Rather than simply revisiting the crime, the documentary gives Henry’s family the opportunity to speak about the person they remember, the loss they have experienced and the questions they want answered.
The programme also explores their concerns about the treatment Henry received and the police investigation that followed.
What happened to Henry Nowak?
Henry Nowak was an 18-year-old university student who was murdered in Southampton in December 2025.
He was walking home after a night out with friends when he was stabbed five times by Vickrum Digwa.
The case became the subject of widespread attention after details of Henry’s final moments emerged during the murder trial.
Digwa was convicted of murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. On 1 June 2026, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 21 years.
Digwa’s mother, Kiran Kaur, was convicted of assisting an offender and sentenced to three years in prison.
The trial revealed that Henry had been handcuffed by police after officers arrived at the scene, following claims that Digwa had been the victim of an assault.
Henry had been stabbed, but officers initially did not understand the severity of his injuries. His handcuffs were subsequently removed, an ambulance was called and officers attempted CPR.
A pathologist told the court that nothing officers could have done that night could have saved Henry’s life.
The circumstances surrounding his treatment nevertheless prompted serious questions about the police response.

Why is Henry Nowak’s family questioning the police investigation?
One of the central themes of Dear Henry: Our Fight for Justice is the family’s concerns about how Henry was treated and the investigation that followed his death.
The family has spoken about the distress caused by learning what happened to Henry in his final moments, including watching footage of his arrest.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s Chief Constable Alexis Boon has admitted that the force failed Henry.
He said:
“Henry’s murder was a devastating tragedy, and our thoughts remain with his family and all those who loved him. I am incredibly sorry that in his final moments, when he needed us most, we failed him.”
The force has also acknowledged the family’s concerns about its response and confirmed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Henry’s death are ongoing.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the actions of officers who attended the scene. Two officers have been placed under investigation for potential gross misconduct.
The documentary gives Henry’s family the opportunity to discuss their experience and the questions they continue to ask about the treatment of their son.

Is there an independent review into Henry Nowak’s murder?
Yes. The Home Secretary announced an independent review into the circumstances surrounding Henry’s murder on 26 October 2026.
The review is being led by former Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk KC.
Its first phase will examine whether opportunities were missed to prevent Henry’s murder, including what public authorities knew about the perpetrator before the attack.
It will also consider how Henry’s family were treated following his death.
The review will examine the roles of agencies including the police, health services, local authorities and educational institutions.
A second phase will follow the conclusion of the IOPC investigation and will consider the actions of police officers and, if necessary, the police watchdog.
The first phase is expected to report to the Home Secretary by March 2027.
The announcement represents an important development in the family’s search for answers, although the review’s findings have not yet been published.
