'Casualty' to leave Holby and move to Wales
'Casualty' is moving to Wales and will feature a brand new hospital from next year.
The move from the fictional city of Holby comes as part of the BBC's strategic objective to feature more of the UK on screen and to create more jobs across the nations. The change follows the same process that 'Waterloo Road' undertook, when the series uprooted and moved to a different school.
Whilst production on Casualty has already moved from Bristol to Cardiff, there has so far been no mention of it to viewers. However as part of the BBC's tender process to find a new production company for the show, a condition has been set that writers must acknowledge the story has moved to an entirely new hospital, now in Wales.
David Pembrey, Chief Operating Officer, BBC Content, says: “The award-winning Casualty is a hugely important continuing drama which has been on our screens since 1986. We are opening it to competition as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the very best value for audiences.”
On-screen, a number of cast members will move with the show, whilst new faces will be introduced.
Fans are promised some spectacular storylines and stunts for the hospital drama's upcoming 40th anniversary and the good news is the BBC have comitted to making the show until at least 2028.
Viewing figures for the long-running programme remain high.
