The 24-year-old actor—best known for playing Dustin Henderson in Netflix’s hit sci-fi saga—will drop into the studio to chat about swapping Hawkins for London’s West End as he prepares to make his highly anticipated UK stage debut in a new revival of Rent.
Matarazzo takes on the iconic role of filmmaker Mark Cohen in the 30th-anniversary production of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera. Directed by Luke Sheppard (Paddington: The Musical), the acclaimed revival lands at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre, with previews beginning September 26.
Speaking on Dermot O’Leary’s Saturday morning show, Matarazzo will discuss taking on the classic musical, transitioning from global television success to London’s West End, and bringing Mark’s journey to a new generation of theatregoers.
The upcoming West End staging builds on Sheppard’s celebrated 2020 production originally mounted at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre, presented in partnership with West End producers Sonia Friedman Productions and Chris Harper Productions.
Listeners can tune into Dermot O’Leary on BBC Radio 2 this Saturday, September 19, from 8:00 AM, or catch up live and on-demand via BBC Sounds.
