Mothers Pride arrives on Sky Cinema: Read our interview with Jonno Davies

mothers pride is on sky cinema from today

If you are looking for an uplifting, distinctly British escape this weekend, look no further. The brilliant British comedy Mother’s Pride officially lands on Sky Cinema today (Friday, 9 October).

From the creative team behind beloved hit films like Finding Your Feet and Fisherman’s Friends, Mother’s Pride tells the heartwarming story of the Harley family. After losing their matriarch, the family must come together against all odds to save their cherished village pub—which has long been in the family—from being wiped out by a swanky new gastro-pub opening right across the road.

With the odds stacked heavily against them, salvation arrives from an unexpected place: musician son Cal returns home from his overseas travels after running out of money and hits upon the bright idea to brew and sell their very own beer.

The movie boasts a star-studded cast featuring Martin Clunes, James Buckley, Mark Addy, Luke Treadaway, Gabriella Wilde, and Jonno Davies.

Reviews and Box Office Buzz

Following its run in UK cinemas, Mother’s Pride built a loyal following among cinema-goers looking for a true feel-good experience. Delivered with the same endearing magic as classic British crowd-pleasers like The Full Monty and Brassed Off, the film leans into its sharp dialogue, cheeky innuendos, and undeniable UK charm.

Packed-out cinema audiences were left in hysterics, drawn in by its heartwarming storylines, loveable characters, and memorable original music. Exploring real human elements alongside the genuine struggles faced across the hospitality sector, the film struck a deep chord with viewers across generations, proving itself to be an instant re-watchable classic.

In Conversation with Jonno Davies

Star Jonno Davies spoke with wheretowatch.tv sharing his thoughts on the film, its picturesque filming locations, and why Mother’s Pride offers the perfect antidote to modern-day stresses.

On Moving On From ‘Better Man’

This marks Jonno’s first major picture since starring in the Robbie Williams biopic Better Man. Reflecting on that film, Jonno told us:

“Better Man was an incredible thing to be part of, it was fascinating to make and the promo around it was all an amazing experience. The only thing with it is we wish more people had gone and seen it, but the reaction from those who did was great”.

Better Man is also streaming on Sky Cinema, now.

A Feel-Good Tonic

Mother’s Pride couldn’t have landed at a better time. With the world in chaos and front pages full of doom and gloom, Jonno feels the film is just what we need right now:

“Yeah, definitely, it doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is, it’s a feel good film, it’s very funny, the cast is full not of comedians but just really great comic actors.”

“Thankfully I didn’t have to do any morris dancing myself, but some of the cast did and the results are hilarious”.

“It’s a great story and yes I do agree that it’s a real feelgood film where people can just go and switch off and enjoy it”.

Filming in Somerset

Mother’s Pride was primarily filmed on location in the Somerset village of Norton St Philip. Key scenes—including those representing the rival pubs—were shot at the Fleur de Lys (the “Drovers Arms”) and the historic George Inn.

“It was so much fun to film, I mean all this cast and crew descending on this village in Somerset, and we were made to feel so welcome. It was so enjoyable to make and Somerset looks amazing on screen”.

“The crew filmed some scenes at the real British Beer Awards, we weren’t there ourselves, they cleverly edited it but is a joy to watch. There are some real human elements to the story as well, my character finds himself back in the village where he grew up and there’s the dynamic of him and his childhood sweetheart”.

Blending Real Life with Fiction

Filmgoers will no doubt question if it’s a true story.

“Elements of it are, it kind of intertwines two real life stories, one about a family who owned a pub and the struggles they had with it, but it’s also about the challenges faced by the hospitality sector at the moment. It’s really tough, and the film brings that to light”.

How to Watch

Mother’s Pride is available to stream on Sky Cinema and NOW (with a Sky Cinema Membership) starting Friday, 9 October.
