With loyalties being tested and old enemies never far away, Michael is once again finding that escaping his past is easier said than done.

The brilliant series continues to deliver gripping storytelling, compelling characters and plenty of twists, making it one of the standout crime dramas on television.

And viewers clearly agree. This City Is Ours is winning big ratings, with its popularity showing no signs of slowing down. In fantastic news for fans, a third series has already been confirmed, meaning there is plenty more to come from the world of the Phelans.

What to expect from This City Is Ours series two

Picking up from where things were left at the end of series one, Michael and Diana are more in love than ever when they arrive in their Spanish Happy Town.

However, their new life of happiness is short-lived when they are dragged back into the world of crime to answer questions surrounding Ricardo’s death. And there is a new Colombian to contend with in the shape of Felipe.

Back in Liverpool, a coup within the Phelan firm sends the business into disarray. As if that wasn’t enough, a new threat arrives in town: Ozzie Thompson.

A newly released, old-school gangster from Ronnie’s past, Ozzie is back looking for compensation or revenge – whichever comes first.

Michael attempts to keep a low profile as his investigation into Ricardo’s murder takes him into increasingly difficult territory. With few options available, he is forced to devise a plan that depends on Diana’s cooperation, testing her loyalties more than ever before.

Elsewhere, Banksey’s son Freddie forms an unlikely friendship with Ozzie, while the Phelans begin exploring business opportunities with a new supplier. But with more enemies lurking in the shadows, the danger is far from over.

Michael may have no choice but to join forces with the Phelans once again, despite everything he has promised Diana. The question is whether he can hold on to the love of his life if he cannot escape the world he has fought so hard to leave behind.

Speaking about Michael’s journey in the second series, James Michael-Joyce said:

“At the end of the first series Michael had decided that he wanted to choose a life with Diana, and they left for Spain. At the beginning of series two, that’s where we find them, in Happy Town, and it’s picture-perfect. Then something happens that drags Michael back to Liverpool, and once again, he has to choose between Diana and his other life – he’s a complex mix of ruthless and vulnerable”

With Michael caught between the woman he loves and the dangerous world he thought he had left behind, series two continues to deliver the twists, tension and brilliant drama that have made This City Is Ours such a hit.

This City Is Ours continues tonight, Sunday November 1, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
