Who are the new Big Brother housemates?

big brother - new housemates have entered

Big Brother introduces two new housemates after Johannes eviction, Twinks and Catrin.

Two new housemates are set to enter the Big Brother house following Johannes’ eviction, with East London fashion stylist Twinks and Welsh teaching assistant Catrin joining the series midway through the competition.

The pair will arrive after three weeks of watching the existing housemates from the outside, giving them a unique insight into the friendships, arguments and alliances that have already developed.

But while they may have seen the drama unfold on screen, both newcomers admit that actually entering the House will be a very different experience.

Who is new Big Brother housemate Twinks?

Twinks, 36, is from East London and works as a fashion stylist and Hype Girl MC.

She says she signed up because she sees Big Brother as the ultimate social experiment and believes her naturally social personality could make her well suited to life in the House.

“I decided to take part in Big Brother because it is the ultimate social experiment. I’m really good at being social and I think we’re getting caught in our own echo chambers – I know that I definitely am. I think it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It just looks like fun and I love fun!”

Twinks is also aware that arriving several weeks into the series could make earning the existing housemates’ trust particularly difficult.

“I am not in there to cause trouble but my greatest skill in life is being able to bring people together. I have been fabulously and famously late to every party I’ve ever been to so this feels quite correct. I’m also very nervous because I’ve never been the new girl at school so it is going to be hard.”

She expects some of the housemates to be suspicious about why she has been brought into the competition at this stage.

“I think people will be suspicious of me. I know that I’m a big character and I don’t think people are going to think I’m necessarily genuine or authentic off the bat – I’m going to have to earn their trust. I’m going in there with cheeky, fun, light, joyful energy rather than to cause trouble – I’m not that kind of troublemaker. I’m a professional party starter so that is what I would like to bring to the House. And hopefully try and mend some rifts – get everyone laughing and dancing together!”

Twinks says earning trust will be her biggest challenge after watching the other housemates for three weeks.

“I think the biggest challenge will be earning people’s trust. I think people might think I’m a mole or I have an agenda. They’ve done three weeks that I haven’t been privy to. It’s going to be tough being the new girl at school. I’m good at entering a room and winning people over, I hope! They’ve been in there a while, they need some entertainment and fresh blood.”

And she already has an idea of what she wants to contribute.

“I’m the ultimate hype girl, I’m going to bring a lot of team talks – I love a pep talk. I think I’m going to bring a bit of motivation. I really hope that I bring a bit of joy, whimsy, levity and fun!”

Twinks also insists she would rather play the role of peacemaker than become embroiled in the House’s arguments.

“I love a bit of salacious gossip but light-hearted gossip. I really am a mediator, a mother and a sorter. I want everyone to love each other and have a nice time. I think I’ll be a peacekeeper. I won’t be a drama creator but I could see how I would get pulled into it and I really don’t want to get pulled into it.”

She is particularly looking forward to meeting Rob and Sam.

“I’m excited to meet Rob and Sam – I think that’s where you’ll find me. I’m a silly goose in high glam. I really have no interest in talking shit behind people’s backs or being shouted at. I do not want to be shouted at. I just want to sing some show tunes!”

Who is new Big Brother housemate Catrin?

Joining Twinks is Catrin, 23, from Aberdare, who works as a teaching assistant.

Her decision to apply was considerably more spontaneous. Catrin says she applied after watching the previous series and having a drink.

“It was really on a whim. I did it after I’d had a glass of wine. I watched it last year and thought ‘this is a bit of me’. One thing about me is I love being in front of a camera. So the thought of being sat in the Diary Room talking to Big Brother is wild. I love it. Also, if you put me in a room with a thousand people I know and then in a room with a thousand strangers, I would automatically warm myself to all the strangers. I love speaking to new people, getting to know new people. It’s a social experiment – you get to know from all different walks of life, with different perspectives.”

Catrin believes she can bring a different energy to the House, particularly as one of its new arrivals.

“I think I’ll be able to bring something to the House. Whether it’s shaking it up in a good way – I’d like to think it would be in a good way. But I do think I could potentially bring more entertainment. I definitely think they need to get a Welsh girl in there for a reason.”

Like Twinks, Catrin has concerns about entering a House where the existing housemates have already established relationships.

However, she is also interested in discovering whether the personalities viewers have seen on television match the people she will meet in person.

“Biggest challenge… I think the thing is people have got a perception from what they’ve already seen through watching it. But they’re only seeing a snapshot from 24hrs. We don’t really know what these people are like. So it would be nice to see are they really like that? Or is that just for telly? It’ll be nice to get to know them on a deeper level. And ignore the fact that I’ve seen all the drama.”

Catrin says she wants to bring fun to the House, describing it as something she believes is currently missing.

“Entertainment. A bit of Valleys charm. I think I’ll be able to bring fun vibes. Because right now there’s drama, and there’s peace. There’s nothing in the middle – fun, loud – there’s none of that.”

Asked whether she will be a peacemaker or get involved in arguments, Catrin replied:

“Mediator. In the middle. I’d be both. I’d get involved if needed.”

Who does Catrin want to meet in the Big Brother house?

Having watched the programme for three weeks, Catrin already has several housemates she is particularly interested in meeting.

One is Philip, who she believes viewers may not have seen the full side of yet.

“Philip. I feel like there’s more to him than what we’ve seen. I think right now we’ve seen the calm Philip – the Philip who’s been there floating. I feel like there’s more. And I’m excited to meet Harry as well – everyone says he’s messy, but I’m intrigued to see if he is actually messy.”

But Catrin also has some concerns about meeting certain housemates — particularly following the tensions that viewers have already seen.

“Johanne and Rochelle. For obvious reasons – big clash, huge clash there. I think if anything they’re both quite similar. Because they’re both quite loud and outgoing. That’s why they’re clashing – they both have the same approach to things. I know I’ll meet one of them tonight and it’s going to be interesting.”

Big Brother gets two new housemates

Twinks and Catrin are entering at a crucial point in the Big Brother series, with the existing housemates already having spent weeks getting to know one another.

Their arrival could test established friendships and alliances, while both newcomers will have to work out where they fit into a group that has already experienced its share of conflict.

For Twinks, the priority is bringing fun and bringing people together. Catrin, meanwhile, is arriving with her own questions about whether the personalities she has watched on screen match what she encounters behind the doors.

After Johannes’ eviction, the House now has two fresh personalities to contend with — and both have already identified the people they are most curious to meet.
