George Fouracres lands huge presenting gig

The 47th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards will be held in London on Sunday, 7 February 2027, with award-winning actor and comedian George Fouracres set to host the ceremony for the first time.

Fouracres is an award-winning actor, comedian and writer, and one of the breakout stars of Saturday Night Live UK. Known for his versatility across comedy and drama, he has built an extensive career spanning television, theatre, radio and live performance.

His screen credits include Steve for Netflix, The Franchise for HBO, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared for Channel 4 and Spitting Image for BritBox. He has also performed extensively at Shakespeare’s Globe and created his debut solo show, Gentlemon. Alongside his work on screen and stage, Fouracres is a regular voice and writing contributor to BBC Radio comedy programming.

His career has seen him take on everything from Shakespearean roles to surreal comedy and sketch characters, establishing him as a prominent voice in British comedy.

Speaking about taking on the hosting role, Fouracres said: “I am delighted to be hosting the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards for the first time. The last year has seen such a range of outstanding films, and I cannot wait to see what these esteemed voters select as the best of the bunch, and to celebrate all the hard work that went into creating them.”

The London Critics’ Circle Film Awards are voted for by some of the UK’s leading film critics, with nominations for the 2027 ceremony due to be announced via press release on 18 December 2026.

Who won at last year’s London Critics’ Circle Film Awards?

Last year’s ceremony saw One Battle After Another take home four major prizes, including Film of the Year, Director of the Year, Screenwriter of the Year and Supporting Actor of the Year.

Timothée Chalamet was named Actor of the Year for Marty Supreme, while Jessie Buckley won Actress of the Year for Hamnet. Amy Madigan received the Supporting Actress of the Year award for Weapons.

British actor and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo was presented with the special Derek Malcolm Award for Innovation, while Guillermo del Toro received the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film.

Other winners included Pillion, which was named British / Irish Film of the Year, and Sentimental Value, which won Foreign Language Film of the Year. The Perfect Neighbour was named Documentary of the Year, while KPop Demon Hunters took the prize for Animated Feature of the Year.

Josh O’Connor was recognised as British / Irish Performer of the Year, with Harry Lighton named British / Irish Filmmaker of the Year. Robert Aramayo won Breakthrough Performer of the Year, while Alfie Williams was named Young British / Irish Performer of the Year.

Ludwig Göransson received the Technical Achievement Award, while Duncan Cowles won British / Irish Short Film of the Year for Neil Armstrong and the Langholmites.

Who votes for the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards?

The Critics’ Circle Film Section forms part of the Critics’ Circle, described as the UK’s longest-standing and most prestigious critics organisation.

The Film Section is chaired by Jane Crowther, with Guy Lodge serving as vice chair and Linda Marric as honorary secretary. WDM Entertainment is leading the 2027 London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

Crowther said: “We look forward to the 47th year of the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, which we intend to make bigger and brighter than ever before. We are delighted to have George Fouracres on board as the host for this year’s ceremony, and as a circle are excited to celebrate a deep bench of extraordinary filmmaking talent across our award categories”

The awards are voted for by the Film Section’s 215 members. Films are automatically eligible if they receive a UK cinema release or premiere on a streaming service between mid-February 2026 and mid-February 2027.

First established in 1980, the annual ceremony celebrates the year’s cinematic achievements, bringing together established stars and filmmakers with emerging talent.

The ceremony will be streamed live via the Critics’ Circle Film Section’s YouTube channel.

Further details regarding the timing of the nominations and awards ceremony are expected to be announced at a later date.
