Graham Norton’s successful writing career
Forever Home is the latest television adaptation to emerge from Graham Norton’s career as a novelist.
Although Norton is best known to television audiences as a broadcaster and presenter, he has established a successful career as a writer, with his novels becoming major publishing successes.
His previous novels include Holding, A Keeper and Home Stretch, with Forever Home continuing his move into stories that combine relationships and family drama with darker, unexpected twists.
The television adaptation gives one of his novels a new audience while retaining the central themes that made the book so distinctive.
Speaking about seeing his novel adapted for television, Graham Norton said: “In writing Forever Home, I was initially inspired by the simple idea of packing up a home later in life, and the “what if” scenarios and complexities that come with later-life relationships. The novel soon evolved into a funny, twisted, ‘dark-romp’ full of farcical scenes and it’s wonderful to see the depth and richness of Carol’s story realized as a screenplay.”
Who adapted Forever Home for television?
The adaptation has been written by Clara Salaman, known for Too Close, who also executive produces the series alongside Graham Norton.
FilmNation Entertainment’s Kirstie Macdonald developed the project and executive produces, while Will Nicholson serves as producer.
Erika Kennair and JC Acosta of The Mediapro Studio are also executive producers.
The series is directed by Paul Gay, whose credits include Vera and Ridley, and Claire Winyard, known for Death Valley and Vera.
The Mediapro Studio will retain and manage international distribution for the series.
Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor at 5, said: “We’re delighted to partner with FilmNation and The Mediapro Studio to bring Graham Norton’s compelling novel to UK screens, supported by an outstanding cast. Working with North East Screen again to champion local filming has been a pleasure, and we can’t wait for viewers to immerse themselves in Forever Home.”
