Apple TV Sets January 2027 Premiere and announces release schedule for Hugh Laurie Crime Drama ‘The Wanted Man’

Apple TV has announced a January 2027 premiere for its upcoming crime drama “The Wanted Man,” starring and executive produced by SAG and Golden Globe Award winner Hugh Laurie. The eight-episode series will debut globally on Wednesday, January 6, 2027, launching with its first two episodes before moving to a weekly Wednesday release through February 17.

Created, written and showrun by George Kay, whose credits include “Hijack,” “War” and “Lupin,” “The Wanted Man” follows organized crime boss Felix Carmichael, played by Laurie, after a betrayal within his own criminal operation lands him in the notorious Staplehurst prison.

With his family, business empire and fortune under threat, Felix is forced to confront the violence that helped build his power. His fight for survival ultimately leads him toward an extraordinary decision: escape from prison.

Apple TV has also released first-look images from the series, offering an early glimpse at Laurie’s latest dramatic role.

Hugh Laurie Leads an Ensemble Cast

Laurie, best known for roles including “House” and “The Night Manager,” leads a cast that includes Emmy, SAG and BAFTA Award winner Thandiwe Newton, known for “Westworld” and “Crash.”

The ensemble also features Fionn Whitehead (“Dunkirk,” “Emily”), BAFTA Award winner and Olivier Award nominee Gina McKee (“My Policeman,” “The Years”), Hazel Doupe (“Say Nothing,” “Kathleen Is Here”), Elliott Heffernan (“Blitz”) and BAFTA Award winner Stephen Dillane (“Game of Thrones,” “The Hours”).

George Kay Leads Creative Team

“The Wanted Man” comes from New Pictures, a Banijay Entertainment company, and Observatory Pictures. Kay serves as creator, writer and executive producer, continuing his work on high-profile international drama following projects including “Hijack,” “War” and “Lupin.”

The executive producing team also includes Golden Globe-nominated and BAFTA Award-winning producer Willow Grylls, whose credits include “War” and “Gone,” alongside BAFTA Award-nominated executive producer Matt Sandford, known for “Gone” and “The Long Shadow.”

David Meanti, whose credits include “Andor” and “Hostage,” serves as series producer.

The series is directed by Emmy Award-nominated filmmaker Jakob Verbruggen, whose previous work includes “The Fall,” “London Spy” and “Dark Matter.”

‘The Wanted Man’ Release Schedule

Apple TV will premiere the first two episodes of “The Wanted Man” on January 6, 2027. A new episode will then arrive every Wednesday, with the eight-episode season scheduled to conclude on February 17.

What Is ‘The Wanted Man’ About?

At the center of the story is Felix Carmichael, a powerful organized crime figure whose carefully controlled world begins to collapse after he is betrayed by someone within his own firm.

His imprisonment at Staplehurst forces Felix to confront the brutality of his past while fighting to survive behind bars. With his family, criminal organization and wealth all at risk, he faces a choice that could determine whether he can reclaim his life outside prison.

“The Wanted Man” will stream globally on Apple TV.
