First-look images revealed for ITV’s scandalous new drama Adultery

ITV has unveiled the first-look images from Adultery, a new six-part romance drama from BAFTA Award-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst, starring Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai as two married parents whose secret affair threatens to upend both their families.

The newly released images offer a first glimpse at the central relationship between Cooper’s Tom and Garai’s Beth, whose attraction develops into an intense affair with potentially devastating consequences.

The drama also places their children at the heart of the story. Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess, played by Leila Khan, and Beth’s son Ollie, played by Johnny Sanpher, are caught up in their own teenage romance. Unaware of the relationship developing between their parents, the pair become increasingly wrapped up in their young love.

At the same time, Beth’s husband Neil, played by Matthew McNulty, and Tom’s wife Hannah, played by Shelley Conn, have no idea what is happening behind their backs.

As Tom and Beth attempt to navigate their feelings, the consequences threaten to extend far beyond their own relationship, potentially changing the lives of both families.

The cast is further joined by Andrew Knott as Dave, the former husband of Beth’s recently deceased best friend. James Murray and Charley Webb play Paul and Leah Kirkman, Tom’s brother and sister-in-law.

According to the series description, Adultery will examine the pressures and complications surrounding an affair while exploring themes including class, grief and the impact of social media.

The story begins with Jess and Ollie falling deeply into their first relationship. Their teenage romance becomes a key connection between the two families before Tom encounters Beth under unexpected circumstances.

That meeting sets the central drama in motion, as Tom and Beth find themselves struggling with a powerful attraction of their own while their children experience the intensity of first love.

The series promises a story of passion, parenthood and peril, with the decisions made by its central characters threatening to have consequences for everyone around them.

Adultery consists of six 60-minute episodes. Brocklehurst created and wrote the series, with Will Sinclair directing episodes one to three and Daniel O’Hara directing episodes four to six. Sarah Lewis serves as series producer.

Executive producers are Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli and Luke Woellhaf, alongside Brocklehurst and Polly Hill for ITV.

Produced by Poison Pen Studios in association with ITV Studios, the series will be distributed internationally by ITV Studios. Adultery is scheduled to launch this October on ITV and STV, with episodes available to stream on ITVX and STV Player.
