Prince William Makes Royal History on The Graham Norton Show

In a historic television moment, the Prince of Wales took his place as the first-ever royal to sit on Graham Norton’s iconic red sofa. Joining an all-star lineup on the pre-recorded show airing tonight, William was greeted with joyful cheers and gasps from the studio audience when he unexpectedly walked out onto the stage.

While the prince’s primary reason for joining the talk show was to spotlight the work of The Earthshot Prize—the environmental initiative he founded in 2020—the chat quickly turned to lighter, personal topics. William candidly opened up about his family’s household obsession with Celebrity Traitors, revealing that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are particular fans.

“I love it, the family love it. Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly,” William shared. He humorously added: “I saw Ross Kemp the day after the first episode and I couldn’t help but try – in the most appropriate way – to touch him to see what reaction I got from him. Turns out he was really jumpy!”

Beyond hit television shows, the future king discussed his support for his beloved Aston Villa football club, his admiration for filmmaker Christopher Nolan, a thwarted ambition to be a DJ, and how he once considered a career in the police force if he were not heir to the throne.

William isn’t the only public figure making groundbreaking television appearances this week—the royal’s couch debut comes as Andy Burkham is about to become the first Prime Minister to appear on Gogglebox.

Alongside the Prince of Wales, tonight’s sofa features a stellar group of celebrity guests who joined Graham to chat about their latest projects:

Cate Blanchett: The Oscar-winning Hollywood great stops by to promote her upcoming film Rumours, a dark political satire centered on a G7 summit gone off the rails.

Hannah Waddingham: The Ted Lasso star discusses her role in the action-comedy blockbuster The Stuntman alongside her return to the stage for a West End run.

Robert Irwin: The Australian conservationist and presenter chats about his new wildlife documentary series, Wild Horizons, continuing his family’s environmental legacy.

Rounding out the evening, singer-songwriter Jorja Smith delivers a live musical performance of her current single, Dancing.

The Graham Norton Show airs tonight on BBC One at 10.40pm.
