The annual awards celebrate the best of Britain’s four biggest continuing dramas — Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks — with viewers getting the chance to recognise the performances, characters, families and storylines that have made the biggest impact.

And while there was plenty of competition between the soaps, it was Coronation Street that made a particularly strong impression, with Jacob Roberts named Best Actor, Sue Devaney taking Best Actress and Jonathan Howard winning Best Villain.

The ITV soap also claimed Best Storyline for Todd Grimshaw’s domestic abuse ordeal at the hands of Theo, while Tina O’Brien was crowned Soap Legend.

However, Emmerdale wasn’t far behind, winning Best Family for the Dingles and taking the coveted Best Character award for Joe Tait.

Here is the full list of winners.

Best Actor – Jacob Roberts, Coronation Street

The award for Best Actor goes to Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit Green in Coronation Street.

Roberts fought off competition from Pierre Moullier, Lawrence Robb and Jamie Lomas to take the prize.

His portrayal of Kit has given the actor plenty of challenging material, and voters clearly felt his performance stood out among this year’s nominees.
