Apple Music Hall opens in London today as Elton John prepares to headline inaugural show

Apple Music Hall officially opens its doors today at Battersea Power Station, with Sir Elton John set to become the first artist to perform at the new 600-capacity London venue.

The state-of-the-art space, built inside the iconic former power station, launches today, Monday 28 September, with an intimate Elton John performance that will also be livestreamed globally on Apple Music tonight.

Apple Music Hall represents Apple’s first dedicated live music venue and is designed to bring the intimacy of a small club together with the production capabilities of a much larger concert space. The venue sits within Battersea Power Station, where Apple also has its UK headquarters.

For the launch, Apple has chosen Elton John, who will perform to a capacity audience tonight before the show is made available to viewers around the world. The performance is scheduled to stream on Apple Music at 8pm BST and will be available to watch on demand afterwards.

A new kind of London music venue

Apple Music Hall has been designed around close proximity between performers and audiences. Despite its relatively small capacity, the venue has been equipped with technology intended to give artists production options associated with considerably larger concert spaces.

Its 38-foot-wide stage can be configured for conventional front-facing performances or adapted for more intimate, in-the-round setups. A 48-speaker Spatial Audio system surrounds the audience, allowing performances created in Spatial Audio to be experienced throughout the room.

The venue also functions as a production facility. Dedicated recording and mixing studios allow performances to be captured as multitrack recordings and mixed in Spatial Audio, while infrastructure for more than 16 cameras enables multicamera productions and broadcast-quality video.

That means an artist’s performance can simultaneously become a live concert, a recorded Spatial Audio release and a professionally produced video broadcast.

Apple says performances from the venue will be livestreamed internationally, extending the reach of shows that would otherwise be limited to the 600 people inside the building.

Elton John opens Apple Music Hall tonight

Elton John’s appearance marks the first public performance at the new venue. The official Apple Music Hall site lists the event for 28 September, with doors at 6pm.

The choice of John also connects the new venue to Apple Music’s existing relationship with the music icon. John presents Rocket Hour on Apple Music 1, where he has long championed emerging artists alongside established names.

Fans who cannot attend in person can watch the opening performance through Apple Music’s livestream from 8pm BST tonight.

Apple Music Hall’s opening lineup

Elton John is the first name on a programme that will bring a range of major artists and emerging acts to the new venue through the end of 2026.

The announced opening run includes:

• 7 October — Skye Newman
• 13 October — Troye Sivan
• 22 October — Arlo Parks
• 29 October — Burna Boy
• 26 November — Chase & Status
• 2 December — Charli XCX

The initial programme was announced ahead of the venue’s opening and establishes Apple Music Hall as a space for both established international acts and newer artists.

Apple has partnered with UK independent promoter Communion ONE on bookings and promotion, while DICE is providing ticketing for live events.

Apple Music Radio also moves to Battersea

The opening of Apple Music Hall coincides with the launch of new Apple Music Radio studios at Battersea Power Station.

London-based Apple Music Radio hosts and programmes will now broadcast from the new facilities, continuing the service’s mix of interviews, premieres, specials and live performances.

Apple Music Radio broadcasts around the clock and is available globally, giving the new Battersea base an additional role beyond the live venue itself.

The arrival of Apple Music Hall also marks a renewed commitment by Apple to physical live music in London. The company has a long history of music events, including the former iTunes Festival, while the new venue brings live performances, recording and global broadcasting together under one roof.

For London audiences, however, the first chapter begins tonight: Elton John takes the stage as Apple Music Hall officially opens its doors.
