Have you ever watched The Traitors and wondered whether you could spot the lies, uncover the secret players or perhaps become a master of deception yourself?
Have you been watching James, Maya and Kenny and thinking you could do better?
Fans of the hit BBC reality competition could soon have the opportunity to put their skills to the test, as applications open for a new series of The Traitors.
Produced for the BBC by Studio Lambert Scotland, the hugely popular show brings together a group of contestants in the Scottish Highlands for a game of strategy, suspicion and betrayal.
But there is a twist. Hidden among the players are the Traitors, whose mission is to deceive their fellow contestants while avoiding detection. The remaining players, known as the Faithful, must work together to identify and banish them before it is too late.
If you think you have what it takes to enter the game, here’s how to apply for The Traitors, the eligibility requirements and what to expect from the application process.
What is The Traitors about?
The Traitors is a psychological reality competition in which a group of strangers must work together to build up a potentially life-changing prize fund, all while trying to work out who they can trust.
Set in a dramatic castle in the Scottish Highlands, contestants compete in a series of missions. The more successful missions they complete, the more money they add to the prize pot.
However, not everyone is playing for the same team.
At the start of the competition, a select number of contestants are secretly chosen to become Traitors. Their identities are kept hidden from the rest of the group, who are known as the Faithful.
The Traitors meet in secret to plot against the Faithful and decide which contestants to eliminate from the game. Their biggest challenge is to remain undetected while convincing everyone around them that they are trustworthy.
Meanwhile, the Faithful must use their instincts, observations and powers of persuasion to work out who the Traitors are.
It is a game of trust and treachery, where friendships can quickly turn into rivalries and even the closest alliances can fall apart.
How does The Traitors work?
Each episode features several key stages that can dramatically change the course of the competition.
The missions
Players work together to complete physical and mental challenges, with successful missions adding money to the overall prize fund. Teamwork is essential, although individual ambitions and suspicions can sometimes get in the way.
The murders
Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors meet privately and choose a Faithful to eliminate. The victim discovers they have been murdered when the group gathers the following morning.
The Round Table
This is where tensions really rise. Contestants discuss their suspicions and vote for the person they believe is a Traitor. The player receiving the most votes is banished and must reveal whether they were a Traitor or a Faithful.
The final
The remaining contestants must decide whether to end the game or continue banishing players. If all the Traitors have been eliminated, the surviving Faithful share the prize money. However, if a Traitor remains, they can claim the entire prize pot.
There can also be unexpected twists, including the possibility of Traitors recruiting new players to join their team.
How do you apply for The Traitors?
Applications are made online through the BBC Take Part page.
Anyone interested in becoming a contestant will need to complete the application process, providing information about themselves and explaining why they would make an interesting addition to the show.
Applicants are also asked whether they would prefer to be a Faithful or a Traitor – and, importantly, why.
This is an opportunity to show the casting team how you think, what your strengths are and how you would approach the game.
Would you prefer to secretly manipulate the other contestants, keep your identity hidden and make calculated decisions as a Traitor?
Or would you rather be a Faithful, using your intuition, powers of observation and ability to read people to uncover the truth?
There is no guarantee that applicants will get their preferred role. The final decision about who becomes a Traitor and who remains a Faithful is made by the production team.
Applicants should be prepared to explain what makes them stand out, how they handle pressure and why they would be entertaining to watch.
What are the requirements to apply?
The main age requirement for applicants is that they must be 18 years old or over.
The application process will ask prospective contestants to provide personal information and answer questions as part of the casting process.
Applicants should also consider their availability, as filming takes place in the Scottish Highlands and requires contestants to be away from their usual routines for the duration of the competition.
When do applications close?
There is a deadline for anyone hoping to take part in the new series.
Applications close on 31 May 2027.
Anyone interested in appearing on the show should complete their application before this date.
Where can you apply for The Traitors?
If you think you have the intelligence to uncover a Traitor or the acting skills to become one yourself, you can register your interest through the official application website.
Do you have what it takes to play?
Being a contestant on The Traitors is about much more than simply being good at lying or spotting someone else’s lies.
Traitors need confidence, a convincing poker face and the ability to make difficult decisions while keeping their fellow players on side.
Faithfuls need sharp instincts, patience and the courage to speak up when something does not feel right.
But the biggest challenge is knowing who to trust.
With secret meetings, surprise twists, dramatic eliminations and tense Round Table showdowns, no two games are ever quite the same.
So, if you have always fancied testing your ability to read people, outsmart your opponents and compete for a share of a potentially huge prize pot, now could be your opportunity.
The question is simple: would you rather be a Faithful or a Traitor?
