The shocking scenes in the semi final of The Celebrity Traitors had to be stopped by Producers when James Acaster became upset.
Behind-the-scenes drama erupted on the set of The Celebrity Traitors, culminating in an unscripted moment of chaos that briefly brought the BBC One production to a complete standstill.
During the show’s penultimate episode, comedian James Acaster reached his breaking point when Faithful Michael Sheen accurately identified him as one of the game’s secret villains. Faced with an inescapable accusation, Acaster broke protocol and instantly confessed to his true identity—mirroring a similar move by banished Traitor Richard E. Grant earlier in the season. The unexpected revelation caught everyone off guard and seemingly infuriated his fellow Traitor, Maya Jama.
The emotional fallout from the confession forced producers and welfare staff to step onto the set to evaluate Acaster’s well-being before the final banishment vote could proceed. Camera crews held off on resuming production until they were certain he was stable enough to continue. However, the final broadcast was seamlessly edited to present a continuous Round Table discussion, cutting the footage of Acaster at his most distressed.
Acaster, who had found the physical and mental demands of the game taxing, had made his preferences clear to host Claudia Winkleman from the start. He admitted he had struggled with his role alongside Jama and later recruit King Kenny, despite successfully flying under the radar until Sheen’s accusation.
Following the vote to banish him, Acaster delivered a heartfelt goodbye to his fellow contestants:
“I’ve had a unique experience on this that no one’s had before. I wanted to be a Faithful so much at the beginning I made sure I pointed out the perfume bottles to everybody, so no one forgot them, and I’m so proud of you guys for catching me the way that you did.”
Reflecting on his exit afterward, Acaster defended his decision, maintaining that stepping down balanced the scales for the upcoming finale and prevented an inevitable Traitor victory.
His departure leaves seven celebrities vying for the ultimate prize: Traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny, alongside Faithfuls Sebastian Croft, Romesh Ranganathan, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, James Blunt, and Michael Sheen.
The season finale airs this Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
