The Madame Blanc Mysteries returns to 5 on Thursday night at 9.05pm, with Jean White investigating the murder of Sainte Victoire’s mayor as her long-awaited wedding to Dom Hayes draws closer.
Wedding bells are on the horizon in Sainte Victoire, but there is another murder to solve before Jean White can walk down the aisle in The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
The popular crime drama returns to 5 on Thursday, October 29, at 9.05pm, with the fifth series opening on an episode titled Fountain. Created by and starring Sally Lindsay, the sun-soaked series promises another helping of baffling mysteries, village secrets and antique discoveries, alongside the ongoing romance between Jean and Dom.
With their Christmas Eve wedding approaching, Jean and Dom should have plenty to celebrate. Instead, the village is rocked by the murder of Mayor Stephanie Arquette, whose body is discovered in its historic fountain.
The killing comes at a particularly sensitive time. Controversial redevelopment plans are set to transform the square, dividing opinion among residents and raising questions about the mayor’s financial dealings and personal relationships. Builder Eddie Day soon comes under scrutiny, but Jean suspects there may be more to the case than a dispute over money or planning permission.
As she joins forces with Chief of Police Caron, Jean begins to explore the fountain’s history, searching for clues that could connect Stephanie’s death to a much older secret. With several possible motives emerging, the investigation threatens to uncover uncomfortable truths about the village and the people who call it home.
Meanwhile, Dom has family worries of his own. His heavily pregnant daughter, Claudie, is causing him concern as tensions grow around her relationship with boyfriend Marco. Dom fears she may be keeping something from him, leaving him torn between his protective instincts and the need to give her space.
The murder mystery is just one part of a busy new series. Uncle Patrick is preparing to host what promises to be the pub quiz of the century at La Couronne, while Judith and Jeremy face a heart-wrenching dilemma. With bodies continuing to pile up and the wedding drawing ever closer, Jean and Dom’s plans for a happy future are unlikely to run entirely smoothly.
Sally Lindsay leads the returning cast
Lindsay returns as Jean White, the antiques expert whose sharp eye for detail and curiosity about the past repeatedly draw her into murder investigations. Steve Edge is back as Dom Hayes, her partner in life and crime-solving, while Alex Gaumond reprises his role as Chief of Police Caron.
The returning cast also includes Sue Vincent as Gloria, Sue Holderness as Judith, Robin Askwith as Jeremy, Tony Robinson as Uncle Patrick, Jacqueline Berces as Gendarme Richard, Sanchia McCormac as Charlie and Djinda Kane as Simone.
Paul Chuckle returns as Trevor, with Stephen Bailey playing John Marsden. Ella Dale and Josh Bolt also appear as Claudie and Marco.
Lindsay co-created the series and writes alongside Sue Vincent, helping to maintain its distinctive mix of cosy crime, character-led drama, humour and Mediterranean escapism.
A ratings success for 5
Since its debut in 2021, The Madame Blanc Mysteries has developed into one of 5’s established returning dramas, attracting viewers with its blend of murder mysteries, antiques and picturesque village life.
The third series averaged 2.3 million viewers and a 10.3 per cent audience share, according to broadcaster-reported figures based on 28-day BARB viewing data. The series has also built an international following, with its IMDb audience rating standing at around 7.1 out of 10.
The fifth series comprises seven episodes, with a new Christmas special set to bring the season to a festive conclusion. The latest run continues the show’s winning formula while giving Jean and Dom’s relationship a major milestone to work towards.
Where is The Madame Blanc Mysteries filmed?
Although the action takes place in the fictional French village of Sainte Victoire, the series is filmed predominantly on the Mediterranean islands of Gozo and Malta.
Gozo provides much of the village’s distinctive look, with Għarb serving as a key location from the second series onwards. Its traditional stone buildings and picturesque square help create the illusion of a French village, while other locations across Gozo and Malta provide additional streets, landmarks and interiors.
The fifth series was filmed across the islands between March and May 2026, bringing the familiar sun-drenched setting back to the screen.
Where to watch The Madame Blanc Mysteries overseas
UK viewers can watch the fifth series on 5 from Thursday, October 29, at 9.05pm.
International audiences will be able to watch the new series on Acorn TV, with the premiere scheduled for Monday, November 9, in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Further episodes will arrive weekly, culminating in the new Christmas special.
With a murder at the heart of the village, a past that refuses to stay buried and a wedding that may not go to plan, Jean has plenty to keep her occupied. The question is whether she can solve the mystery of the fountain before another secret comes to light — and whether she and Dom will finally make it down the aisle.
Fans of Sally can see her brand new talk show straight after the episode. More on that, here.
