Taskmaster Final: Tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
After ten weeks of bizarre challenges, spectacular failures, ingenious thinking and plenty of arguments with Greg Davies, it is finally time to crown the winner of Taskmaster Series 22.
The grand final, titled Big, Clumsy Emu Steps, airs tonight, Thursday 5 November, at 9pm on Channel 4, with five comedians battling it out for the coveted Taskmaster trophy.
Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie, Matt Lucas, Nina Conti and Richard Ayoade have all put themselves through the show’s famously ridiculous challenges, but only one can become the 22nd Taskmaster champion.
As ever, Greg Davies will be overseeing proceedings from his throne, with creator and assistant Alex Horne on hand to make sure the tasks are completed, the rules are followed and the contestants receive the points they deserve – or, more likely, argue they deserve.
The final episode promises some particularly memorable moments, including Matt Lucas sporting a full head of ginger hair, Richard Ayoade demonstrating his bouncing abilities and Nina Conti attempting to deliver a shot of adrenaline.
There will also be questions about Alex Horne’s leg hair, and the contestants will get the opportunity to have some fun puppeteering the long-suffering assistant.
Once the final challenges are complete, the scores will be announced and one contestant will leave with the golden Taskmaster trophy.
Who are the Taskmaster Series 22 contestants?
This year’s line-up brings together five comedians and performers with very different approaches to comedy, problem-solving and competition.
Here’s a closer look at the contestants hoping to become the latest Taskmaster champion.
Chloe Petts
<escape> </escape>
Chloe Petts is an acclaimed stand-up comedian who has become a familiar face on the British comedy circuit.
Known for their observational humour and energetic performances, Chloe has appeared on programmes including Have I Got News for You and has performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Taskmaster has proved particularly exciting for Chloe, who has admitted to being a huge fan of the programme.
In Channel 4’s series press pack, Chloe described taking part as a dream come true and spoke openly about their competitive nature.
They said: “This is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. I will be bereft if I don’t get to do it again — genuinely bereft.”
Chloe has also developed a close friendship with fellow contestant Isy Suttie during filming, although their competitive instincts have certainly been put to the test.
Isy Suttie
Isy Suttie is a comedian, actress and writer best known to television audiences for playing Dobby in Channel 4’s hugely popular sitcom Peep Show.
She has also appeared in Man Down, Skins and Shameless, alongside building a successful career in stand-up comedy, radio and writing.
Isy’s approach to the tasks has provided plenty of entertainment, particularly when she has found herself disagreeing with Greg over his scoring decisions.
Her friendship with Chloe Petts has also become one of the enjoyable dynamics of this series.
The pair have supported one another throughout the competition, although Chloe has admitted that Isy’s tendency to argue can sometimes make things difficult!
Matt Lucas
Matt Lucas is one of Britain’s best-known comedy performers, with a career spanning television, film and theatre.
He first became widely recognised through Shooting Stars before achieving enormous success alongside David Walliams in Little Britain and Come Fly With Me.
His other credits include Doctor Who, Bridesmaids, Paddington and The Great British Bake Off, which he co-presented with Noel Fielding.
On Taskmaster, Matt has brought his experience of character comedy, quick wit and wordplay to the challenges.
He has also shown a different side of himself, with fellow contestant Chloe describing him as a relaxed and sincere presence away from the cameras.
The final episode promises another memorable Matt Lucas moment, with viewers discovering what he looks like with a full head of ginger hair.
Nina Conti
Nina Conti is an award-winning comedian, actress and ventriloquist whose distinctive performances have made her one of Britain’s most original comedy talents.
Best known for her ventriloquism, Nina regularly performs alongside her puppet characters, combining improvisation, character comedy and audience interaction.
Her television appearances include QI, The Rob Brydon Show and Russell Howard’s Good News. She also made her feature-film directorial debut with Sunlight.
Nina has brought her unusual approach to comedy to Taskmaster, with her creative thinking and unpredictable performances making her one of the most entertaining contestants.
She has also incorporated ventriloquism into several of the prize tasks.
Alex Horne has praised her instinctive approach, particularly when she decided to improvise a song rather than spend time planning it.
Greg Davies has also enjoyed watching Nina’s attempts to impress him, particularly when her enthusiasm occasionally gets the better of her.
Richard Ayoade
Richard Ayoade completes the five-person line-up and has been one of the most anticipated contestants in the series.
The actor, comedian, writer and director is best known for playing Maurice Moss in Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd.
His other television credits include Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, Travel Man, Gadget Man and The Crystal Maze.
Richard has also directed the films Submarine and The Double and is a familiar face on British comedy panel shows.
His distinctive deadpan delivery and eccentric approach have made him a fascinating addition to Taskmaster.
Speaking about Richard’s participation, Alex Horne said:
“Richard was everything I hoped for and more.”
Greg also praised his contribution, describing him as endlessly funny and saying he brought a new dynamic to the studio.
The final episode promises another opportunity to see Richard’s unusual problem-solving skills in action, with the programme teasing just how impressively he can bounce across a room.
What happens in the Taskmaster final tonight?
The final episode is packed with unusual challenges and some long-awaited answers.
Among the questions viewers can expect to see explored are what Matt Lucas looks like with a full head of ginger hair, how Richard Ayoade approaches bouncing across a room and whether Nina Conti can successfully deliver a shot of adrenaline.
There is also a question about Alex Horne’s leg hair, while the contestants get to enjoy some puppeteering of their own using the Taskmaster’s ever-patient assistant.
As the final scores are revealed, the competition will reach its conclusion.
One contestant will be crowned the 22nd Taskmaster champion and join the show’s previous winners.
How does Taskmaster work?
For anyone unfamiliar with the format, Taskmaster sees five comedians compete in a series of unusual and often ridiculous challenges designed to test their creativity, ingenuity, patience and ability to think outside the box.
The tasks are usually filmed in advance at the Taskmaster house, with contestants given instructions that can be deliberately confusing or open to interpretation.
They then come together in the studio, where Greg Davies watches their efforts and awards points according to how well he thinks they have performed.
Alex Horne acts as the Taskmaster’s assistant, overseeing the challenges, explaining the rules and occasionally finding himself at the centre of the contestants’ increasingly bizarre schemes.
There are also prize tasks, where contestants bring in items based on a particular theme, hoping to impress Greg and secure valuable points.
The combination of unexpected solutions, questionable interpretations of instructions and Greg’s often unpredictable judging has made the programme one of Channel 4’s most popular comedy entertainment shows.
Who presents Taskmaster?
The programme is fronted by Greg Davies, who plays the all-powerful Taskmaster, with comedian Alex Horne serving as his assistant.
Alex originally created the format, which began at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe before becoming a television series in 2015.
Greg’s imposing presence and Alex’s increasingly bewildered reactions have become central to the show’s appeal.
Over the years, the programme has welcomed comedians, actors, presenters and other familiar television personalities, with contestants competing for the honour of taking home the famous golden trophy.
