Launching on Monday 6 July, the new-look morning programme promises to bring plenty of laughter, big-name guests and interactive features designed to help kick-start the day.
Fans of Sara’s popular teatime show will be pleased to hear that some favourite segments are making the move to breakfast, including the much-loved Kids in the Car feature. Alongside those familiar elements, Sara will also introduce brand-new games, competitions and audience participation features.
And she’s not starting small when it comes to guests.
Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks will be the very first celebrity to join Sara on the new show to discuss Toy Story 5, setting the tone for what Radio 2 is promising will be a star-studded line-up in the weeks ahead.
Speaking about the launch, Sara joked: Sara said: “Roll on the 6 July! For generations to come people will (probably) say ‘where were YOU when the Sara Cox Breakfast Show was launched on Radio 2 featuring the legendary Tom Hanks?’ (and hopefully they’ll reply ‘listening and laughing along with a nice brew’).”
Listeners can also expect regular traffic and travel updates from Ellie Brennan, while Matthew Carter will keep audiences informed with the latest news. The programme will feature updates from the worlds of entertainment and sport, alongside stories sent in by listeners themselves. A daily Pause For Thought segment will also remain part of the morning schedule.

One of the biggest focuses of the new show will be audience participation. Sara is encouraging listeners to get in touch, join in with quizzes and share stories from their everyday lives.
