Where to watch the new version of Maigret in the UK
The new Maigret TV series is coming to the UK, with Series 1 of the contemporary French detective drama set to premiere on U and U&DRAMA in December.
UKTV has acquired the UK premiere rights to Series 1 and Series 2 of Maigret, a new adaptation of Georges Simenon’s iconic detective stories starring Benjamin Wainwright as Chief Inspector Jules Maigret.
The deal will bring all 12 episodes across the two series to UK audiences as part of a wider 114-hour content agreement between UKTV and Banijay Rights.

When is Maigret on TV in the UK?
Series 1 of Maigret will premiere on U and U&DRAMA in December, giving UK viewers their first chance to see the new adaptation.
Series 2 will follow in 2027.
The series is being made available through both UKTV’s free streaming service U and its linear drama channel U&DRAMA, giving viewers two ways to watch.

Based on the hugely popular detective created by French writer Georges Simenon, the new Maigret offers a contemporary take on one of crime fiction’s most recognisable characters.
Benjamin Wainwright stars as Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, who leads a team of unconventional but loyal detectives known as Les Maigrets.
In Series 1, Maigret and his team investigate a series of complex crimes across Paris.
His unconventional approach to solving cases frequently puts him at odds with his superiors and the judicial system he represents.
As well as attempting to outwit some of the city’s most dangerous criminals, Maigret must contend with the troubled events of his own past.

How many episodes of Maigret are there?
The UKTV deal covers 12 episodes across two series, with each episode running for 45 minutes.
Series 1 comprises six episodes, with a further six episodes making up Series 2.
The second series is scheduled to arrive in the UK in 2027.
Why is Maigret coming to U?
The acquisition is part of a much larger deal between UKTV and Banijay Rights covering 114 hours of programming.
As well as Maigret, the package includes the UK premiere of A Remarkable Place to Die Series 2, which is due to air in November.
The wider deal also includes a selection of factual and library titles, including:

- Ambulance Series 12 and 13
- Lost and Found in the Lakes
- Saving Lives at Sea Series 9 and 10

Maigret is a Playground co-production for Masterpiece, in association with Banijay Rights Limited and Windhover Films.
The series was created for television and written by Patrick Harbinson, who is also one of the directors alongside Faye Gilbert and David Evans.
The executive producers include Hilary Strong, Patrick Harbinson, David Stern, Colin Callender, Susanne Simpson, Cathy Payne and Simon Cox.
The series is produced by Tim Whitby.
It will also air on PBS Masterpiece in the US.
