Sky has released the first trailer for the darkly comic thriller’s second season, teasing a dangerous new chapter for Rhiannon Lewis as her body count rises, her love life takes an unexpected turn and someone threatens to reveal her deadly secret.
Ella Purnell is back as one of television’s most unpredictable antiheroes, with Sky unveiling a brand-new trailer for Season 2 of Sweetpea.
The Fallout and Yellowjackets star reprises her role as Rhiannon Lewis, the seemingly unremarkable wallflower who discovers a darker side to herself and turns to murder. The next instalment promises more twisted humour, escalating danger and uncomfortable questions about how far Rhiannon is prepared to go to protect the life she has built.
But after the events of the first season, keeping her double life under control may prove more difficult than ever. Rhiannon is facing changes at work, a new romantic connection and the emergence of a copycat killer who could expose everything.
All episodes of Sweetpea Season 2 will be available to stream on Sky and NOW from 26 November.
Rhiannon’s new life comes with a deadly catch
Season 2 finds Rhiannon navigating a promotion, an irresistible rebound romance and a growing list of victims. On the surface, she appears to be moving forward, gaining new opportunities and perhaps finding a way to enjoy the confidence that once seemed beyond her reach.
Yet her newfound sense of control comes with a significant risk: someone else appears to be following in her murderous footsteps.
The arrival of a copycat killer threatens to bring Rhiannon’s carefully concealed crimes into the open. As the body count mounts, she must contend with the possibility that she is no longer the only person capable of committing such acts — and that another killer could unravel the secrets she has fought to keep hidden.
The new season also returns to a central question hanging over Rhiannon: is she truly in control of her transformation, or has she become the monster her seemingly perfect ex, AJ, believed her to be?
That moral uncertainty lies at the heart of the series. Rhiannon is both the character audiences follow and the person whose actions they are forced to question, creating an uneasy balance between dark comedy, thriller suspense and a portrait of someone increasingly comfortable with crossing lines she once would never have considered.
With a promotion to contend with, fresh romantic complications and a potential threat from someone who understands her methods, Rhiannon’s next chapter looks set to put her carefully managed existence under intense pressure.
New cast members join Ella Purnell
The second season introduces several new faces, expanding the world around Rhiannon and bringing fresh complications into her personal and professional life.
<text weight=”medium”>New cast members</text>
- Rish Shah (Overcompensating, Joy) joins as Gabriel, Rhiannon’s new romantic interest. Their connection promises to add another layer of uncertainty to a life already filled with secrets.
- Tamsin Greig (Riot Women, Friday Night Dinner) plays Liv, the mother of Rhiannon’s ex, AJ.
- Taj Atwal (Riot Women, Line of Duty) appears as Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the Carnsham Gazette.
- Jenny Walser (Heartstopper, Star City) plays Daisy, a new friend in Rhiannon’s life.
- Annabelle Davis (The Dumping Ground) joins as Bella, who works in the police administration department.
The new characters bring potential sources of support, scrutiny and conflict into Rhiannon’s increasingly complicated world. Gabriel represents a new romantic possibility, while Freya’s arrival at the newspaper means Rhiannon will have to navigate another demanding relationship in the workplace.
Meanwhile, Daisy’s friendship could offer Rhiannon a chance at a more ordinary connection — although maintaining genuine relationships may be difficult when so much of her life depends on concealing the truth.
Bella’s position within the police administration department also places a new character within the wider world of law enforcement, an important part of a story in which Rhiannon’s crimes could eventually catch up with her.
Familiar faces return for Season 2
Alongside Purnell, several members of the original cast are returning.
Jon Pointing (Big Boys, Run Away) reprises his role as Craig, while Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Downton Abbey) returns as Norman.
Leah Harvey (Foundation, The Scurry) is back as Marina, with Ingrid Oliver (Thursday Murder Club, Doctor Who) returning as DI St John. Nitin Ganatra (Mr Bigstuff, Sexy Beast) reprises his role as Rory, and Alexandra Dowling (Emily, Game of Thrones) returns as Seren.
Their return maintains continuity with the first season as Rhiannon’s world expands and the consequences of her actions become more difficult to contain.
The combination of returning characters and new additions gives Season 2 several avenues to explore, from workplace tensions and complicated relationships to the growing danger posed by a killer who may be operating by a familiar playbook.
What is Sweetpea about?
Inspired by the titular character in CJ Skuse’s cult novels, Sweetpea follows Rhiannon Lewis, a woman who has spent much of her life feeling overlooked.
Her transformation from quiet wallflower into killer provides the series with its darkly comic premise. Rather than presenting a conventional crime story centred solely on detectives pursuing a murderer, the show places viewers inside the life of the person committing the crimes.
That perspective allows the thriller to explore resentment, identity and the intoxicating appeal of finally feeling powerful — while keeping the audience alert to the increasingly disturbing consequences of Rhiannon’s choices.
Ella Purnell, whose other credits include the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout and the psychological thriller Yellowjackets, leads the series as Rhiannon. Her performance anchors a story that mixes uncomfortable humour with suspense and the question of whether a person who has embraced their darkest impulses can ever return to the life they once knew.
The new season’s copycat storyline appears poised to complicate that question further. With another killer potentially exposing Rhiannon’s secret, she may find herself confronting not only the consequences of her own actions but also the possibility that she is no longer the most dangerous person in the room.
Who makes Sweetpea?
Sweetpea is produced by See-Saw Films in association with Sky Studios. The series draws inspiration from CJ Skuse’s novels, adapting the character and premise for a television thriller that combines crime, dark comedy and psychological tension.
Season 2 continues the story with Purnell leading an ensemble that includes returning cast members and a substantial group of newcomers.
When can you watch Sweetpea Season 2?
All episodes of Sweetpea Season 2 will be available to stream on Sky and NOW on 26 November.
The new trailer sets up a season in which Rhiannon’s life appears to be moving in the right direction — but the arrival of a copycat killer threatens to turn her apparent progress into a fresh nightmare.
With more murders, a new romance, workplace pressure and the question of whether AJ was right about her hanging over everything, Rhiannon Lewis is heading into another chapter where the line between victim, villain and antihero may become harder to distinguish.
