The hit London production has added more than a year to its booking period after a major night at the 2026 Olivier Awards, with Broadway and Sydney productions also planned.
Paddington The Musical is extending its West End run at London’s Savoy Theatre until 25 June 2028, following what producers have described as unprecedented demand for tickets.
The extension was reported by Deadline, which highlighted the show’s growing success following its recent triumph at the 2026 Olivier Awards. The production has become a major draw for London theatregoers since the beloved Peruvian bear made his West End debut a year ago.
The latest extension means audiences will have longer to experience the marmalade-loving character’s theatrical adventure, as the musical prepares to expand internationally.
Seven Olivier Awards cement Paddington’s success
The production enjoyed an impressive evening at the 2026 Olivier Awards, taking home seven prizes, including Best New Musical and Best Director for Luke Sheppard.
James Hameed and Arti Shah, who jointly portray Paddington, also received the award for Best Actor in a Musical. The wins add to the show’s growing list of accolades, which also includes recognition from critics.
The awards success has helped cement the musical’s position as one of the standout new productions in London’s theatre scene, while the extended booking period gives fans more opportunities to see the show.
What is Paddington The Musical about?
When a small, lost bear arrives in London from Peru in search of a home, an unexpected encounter with the Brown family leads him to Windsor Gardens.
But settling into a new life in the capital is not quite as straightforward as Paddington might hope. Beneath the afternoon teas and friendly faces, trouble is brewing, and a mysterious, vengeful villain sets her sights on the bear.
As danger threatens, the Brown family embarks on a thrilling rescue mission. Along the way, they discover that Paddington has become much more than a guest in their home — he is someone they need just as much as he needs them.
Packed with original songs, dazzling choreography, comedy, chaotic mishaps and, naturally, marmalade sandwiches, the production brings the much-loved character to the stage in a colourful family adventure.
The musical is based on the iconic characters created by author Michael Bond, with a story inspired by the award-winning 2014 film.
Luke Sheppard, Tom Fletcher and Jessica Swale lead the creative team
The production is directed by Luke Sheppard, with original music and lyrics by Tom Fletcher and a book by Jessica Swale.
Its combination of familiar characters, theatrical spectacle and new musical material has helped introduce Paddington’s story to audiences in a different format, while retaining the warmth and humour associated with the books and films.
The show has been billed as a “marmalade-flavoured masterpiece” by The Daily Mail, reflecting the production’s playful approach to bringing the bear’s adventures to life.
Broadway and Sydney productions planned
The London extension is not expected to affect plans to take Paddington The Musical to Broadway.
A New York production is planned for March 2027 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, marking another major step for the stage adaptation. A Sydney production is also planned, with performances expected to begin at the Capitol Theatre in September 2027.
The international plans would bring the production to new audiences while its London home continues to welcome theatregoers.
