It’s a Sin star Callum Scott Howells and EastEnders icon Tamzin Outhwaite are set to star in a new Channel 4 thriller, The Night They Vanished, alongside Black Doves actress Gabrielle Creevy.
The six-part drama is now filming in Wales and is based on Vanessa Savage’s romantic thriller of the same name.
The casting brings together two familiar faces currently appearing on stage across the UK, with Howells and Outhwaite both starring in a touring production of Abigail’s Party.
According to Deadline, Howells will play Cai, an intriguing man who meets Anna, played by Creevy, on a blind date. Outhwaite will play Anna’s stepmother, Jo.
The story begins with a disturbing discovery that leaves Anna questioning everything she thought she knew about her family.
What is The Night They Vanished about?
The Night They Vanished follows Anna, whose life is thrown into chaos when she discovers her childhood home listed on a true-crime website as the scene of her family’s future deaths.
The website is run by Cai, the mysterious man Anna meets on a blind date, but he insists that he did not post the listing.
While the police dismiss it as a hoax, Anna’s situation becomes increasingly alarming when she discovers that her family has vanished.
She is left trying to establish who created the sinister listing, why her childhood home has been targeted and whether the threat against her family is real.
The six-part series is adapted from Vanessa Savage’s romantic thriller, her third novel.
Callum Scott Howells leads the Channel 4 cast
Howells takes one of the drama’s central roles as Cai.
The Welsh actor became widely known after playing Colin Morris-Jones in Russell T Davies’ acclaimed Channel 4 drama It’s a Sin.
He has since appeared in projects including The Way and Deadpoint, the latter another drama filmed in Wales.
His casting in The Night They Vanished reunites him with Channel 4 for another major thriller, although this time he will be playing a character at the centre of a much darker mystery.
Howells is also currently touring the UK in Abigail’s Party, alongside Tamzin Outhwaite.
EastEnders icon Tamzin Outhwaite joins The Night They Vanished
Outhwaite will play Jo, Anna’s stepmother, adding another recognisable name to the Channel 4 drama.
The actress is best known to television audiences for playing Mel Owen in EastEnders, but her more recent credits include The Wives, Ridley Road and The Tower.
She is currently appearing alongside Howells in the UK tour of Abigail’s Party, making their casting in The Night They Vanished another project bringing the pair together.

Black Doves actress Gabrielle Creevy leads the series as Anna.
The cast also includes Steffan Rhodri, who plays Anna’s father Idris.
Rhodri is best known to many viewers as Dave Coaches in Gavin & Stacey, while his other credits include The Light in the Hall and The Pact.
Additional cast members include Matthew Gravelle, Lisa Victoria, Jack Quick, Andrew Lennon, Callum Hymers and Bella Shewan.
Who is making The Night They Vanished?
The Night They Vanished is being produced by CliffEdge Entertainment, the new BBC Studios label.
BBC Studios is also handling worldwide sales of the series, while Channel 4 has pre-bought the six-part drama.
Deadline reports that a deal with a US buyer is also close.
The series has been adapted by Angharad Elen, known for The Light In The Hall, and Hannah Daniel, whose credits include Mudtown.
Filming is taking place in Wales.
