Lupin Part 4 arrives on Netflix on October 23, with Omar Sy reprising his role as master thief Assane Diop in a new mystery that forces him to escape prison and reclaim his legendary alter ego.
The gentleman thief is back, but this time, Assane Diop has no intention of returning to his old life. After the dramatic events of Part 3 left him behind bars, the beloved French crime drama is preparing for another high-stakes chapter as Lupin Part 4 arrives on Netflix on Friday, October 23.
All eight episodes of the new instalment will be available to stream on launch day, bringing the global phenomenon back four years after the events of Part 3. Inspired by the adventures of fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, the series has become one of Netflix’s most recognisable international hits, combining elaborate robberies, unexpected twists and the unmistakable charm of Paris.
But Assane’s latest challenge could be his most personal yet. Having finally surrendered to the authorities in the hope of protecting the people he loves, he now faces a mystery that threatens to destroy the life he has tried to rebuild.
What is Lupin Part 4 about?
When viewers last saw Assane, he had made the difficult decision to turn himself in to the police. After years of outsmarting his enemies and staying one step ahead of the authorities, he believed that sacrificing his freedom was the only way to secure a safer future for his wife, Claire, their son Raoul, his mother and his closest friend.
Part 4 picks up with Assane still in prison, determined to serve his sentence and honour the promise he made to Raoul: that they would visit their family in Senegal. For once, he appears ready to leave the Lupin persona behind and accept the consequences of his actions.
However, his plans are thrown into chaos when a mysterious announcement, signed in the name of Lupin, reveals that several museums are to be targeted in simultaneous heists.
Despite heightened security, the robberies are carried out successfully. Assane insists that he is innocent, but the evidence appears to tell a different story. Security footage even places him inside one of the museums during a robbery in which Captain Belkacem is seriously injured.
With suspicion closing in and his name once again at the centre of a major criminal investigation, Assane has little choice but to take matters into his own hands. He must escape prison, put on the Lupin disguise once more and discover who is using his identity to carry out the crimes.
The new mystery sets up a compelling question: who is the copycat, and why are they determined to make Assane take the blame?
Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop
Omar Sy reprises his celebrated leading role, bringing back the quick-thinking thief whose intelligence, showmanship and talent for disguise have helped make Lupin a worldwide success.
Assane has always drawn inspiration from Arsène Lupin, the fictional gentleman thief created by French author Maurice Leblanc. Rather than relying solely on force, he uses observation, elaborate schemes and an ability to manipulate expectations to stay ahead of his opponents.
Yet his criminal adventures have never been just about the thrill of the heist. At the heart of the series is a man seeking justice for his father, Babakar, who was wrongly accused of stealing a valuable necklace and died after being caught up in a conspiracy involving powerful businessman Hubert Pellegrini.
That personal history has shaped Assane’s every move, while his determination to protect his family has repeatedly forced him to choose between the people he loves and the dangerous world he has created around himself.
Part 4 looks set to test that balance again. With Assane accused of crimes he claims not to have committed, his return to the Lupin identity may be less about revenge or personal gain and more about clearing his name.
Who is in the cast of Lupin Part 4?
Alongside Sy, several familiar faces are returning for the new episodes.
The confirmed cast includes:
- Omar Sy as Assane Diop
- Ludivine Sagnier
- Antoine Gouy
- Soufiane Guerrab
- Shirine Boutella
- Théo Christine
- Laïka Blanc-Francard
The returning ensemble will help continue the stories of the characters whose lives have become intertwined with Assane’s increasingly complicated schemes. As the new investigation unfolds, the consequences of his decision to surrender are likely to reach well beyond his prison cell.
What happened in Lupin Parts 1 and 3?
With Part 4 arriving four years after the previous instalment, now is the perfect time to revisit the twists that brought Assane to prison.
Lupin Part 1: The necklace that started it all
The series opens with Assane orchestrating a daring robbery at the Louvre in Paris. His target is a valuable necklace once associated with Marie Antoinette — the same piece his father, Babakar Diop, was accused of stealing years earlier.
Assane’s plan soon reveals a much bigger story. Babakar had been framed by wealthy businessman Hubert Pellegrini, with help from police commissioner Dumont. Following Babakar’s death, Pellegrini’s wife, Anne, attempted to make amends by helping fund Assane’s education at a prestigious private school.
It was there that Assane developed his fascination with Arsène Lupin, whose adventures would later inspire his own criminal methods.
Determined to expose Pellegrini, Assane joins forces with investigative journalist Fabienne Bertiot. But the investigation takes a devastating turn when Fabienne dies under mysterious circumstances.
Meanwhile, police inspector Youssef Guédira begins to recognise the connection between the necklace theft and the fictional gentleman thief. Assane’s attempts to protect his family also put them in danger, culminating in the kidnapping of his son, Raoul, during a birthday trip.
The first part established the series’ defining combination of personal tragedy, intricate cons and cliffhangers — with Assane’s past continuing to catch up with him.
Lupin Part 3: Assane makes the ultimate sacrifice
Part 3 pushed Assane’s plans to their limits. Among its major developments, he stole the Black Pearl, gained support from members of the French public, faked his own death and rescued his estranged mother.
But even as Assane continued to outmanoeuvre his enemies, the cost of his double life became increasingly difficult to ignore. His loved ones remained vulnerable, and his attempts to keep them safe threatened to draw them deeper into danger.
Ultimately, Assane decided that the only way to give his family a chance at a peaceful life was to surrender himself to the authorities.
The final scenes left him behind bars, with a complete set of Arsène Lupin books for company. It was a striking ending for a character who had spent the series making a mockery of the police — and a clear setup for the next chapter.
Now, with someone apparently using his name to commit a string of robberies, Assane must decide whether he can afford to remain imprisoned while another criminal destroys the reputation he built.
Why Lupin Part 4 could be the series’ most dangerous chapter yet
One of the biggest strengths of Lupin has been its ability to turn seemingly impossible situations into elaborate puzzles. Assane’s disguises, carefully planned cons and unexpected escapes have become central to the show’s appeal, but his latest predicament adds a new complication: he is already behind bars when the crimes begin.
The apparent copycat also creates an intriguing challenge for a character whose reputation is built on being several steps ahead of everyone else. If someone can convincingly imitate Lupin, they may understand Assane’s methods well enough to anticipate his next move.
There is also the question of trust. Assane’s decision to surrender was intended to protect his family, but his latest attempt to clear his name could put that sacrifice at risk. Escaping prison may be the only way to solve the mystery, yet doing so could undermine the very promise that led him to give himself up.
The Paris setting, meanwhile, remains a crucial part of the series’ identity. Its famous landmarks and cultural institutions provide the backdrop for Assane’s elaborate operations, transforming familiar locations into stages for deception and suspense.
With eight episodes arriving together, viewers will be able to follow the new mystery from its opening heists through to its eventual resolution without waiting for weekly instalments.
When does Lupin Part 4 come out on Netflix?
Lupin Part 4 premieres globally on Netflix on Friday, October 23, 2026. All eight episodes will be released on the same day.
The new season follows the events of Part 3, which ended with Assane behind bars after he surrendered to protect his family. This time, he must find a way out of prison and uncover the identity of a mysterious criminal who appears to be operating under the Lupin name.
For fans of the French hit, the wait is almost over. Assane Diop may have tried to leave his gentleman-thief days behind, but someone else has made sure his most famous identity is back in the spotlight — and he will have to become Lupin again to prove he is innocent.
