WAR Episode 4 Preview: Taylor and Byrne Fight for a Landmark Settlement as Morgan’s Secret Is Exposed

The divorce battle takes another turn in WAR episode 4, as Nicholas Taylor faces a formidable old rival, Morgan Henderson’s plans come to light, and Johnny and Carla grow closer.

The stakes are rising in WAR, Sky Atlantic’s glossy and ruthless legal drama, as episode 4 arrives tonight, Friday 23 October, at 9pm. With the high-profile divorce of tech billionaire Morgan Henderson and movie star Carla Duval threatening to become an all-out legal war, both sides are running out of room for compromise.

Starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller, the eight-part Sky Original comes from George Kay, the writer behind Lupin and The Long Shadow. The series follows rival London law firms as they battle for victory in a divorce case where vast wealth, bruised egos and personal loyalties are all in play.

As our review of the series noted, WAR is less concerned with polite legal arguments than with what happens when money, ambition and revenge collide. Tonight’s episode looks set to push those tensions further.

Can Taylor and Byrne avoid a courtroom showdown?

Taylor & Byrne are hoping to secure a landmark settlement that could bring the divorce battle to a close without the need for a full court case. Reaching an agreement, however, will be far from straightforward.

Before Nicholas Taylor can make progress, he must face St John Smallwood, his former colleague who has since become his arch-rival. Played by James McArdle and Pip Torrens respectively, the two men are on opposing sides of a dispute in which professional pride may prove just as important as the interests of their clients.

St John is no ordinary opponent. As a senior figure at Cathcarts & Sons, the establishment firm representing Morgan, he is part of a legal world where reputation and influence can be as powerful as the arguments presented on paper.

For Nicholas, the encounter brings the conflict closer to home. A settlement may be the preferred outcome, but getting there means navigating a rival who knows the profession — and potentially Nicholas himself — all too well.

Morgan’s secret plans come to light

Meanwhile, Morgan Henderson faces a fresh problem when his secret plans to protect his wealth are uncovered.

Dominic West’s billionaire character has the money and influence to make life difficult for almost anyone, but the divorce has already shown that financial power does not guarantee control. As the battle intensifies, Morgan’s attempts to safeguard his fortune could have consequences for his position in the dispute.

The revelation also raises questions about how far he is prepared to go to protect what he considers his. With Carla’s future and an enormous fortune at stake, every new development has the potential to change the balance between the estranged couple.

Sienna Miller’s Carla is no passive participant in the proceedings. As an internationally famous film star, she understands the importance of public image, but the battle with Morgan threatens to turn her private life into a very public spectacle.

Johnny and Carla grow closer

Away from the legal manoeuvring, Johnny Warren and Carla find themselves drawn to each other.

Played by Archie Renaux, Johnny is a young lawyer navigating the competing demands of ambition, loyalty and personal feeling. His growing connection with Carla adds another complication to a case in which professional boundaries are already under pressure.

Their attraction could have implications beyond their private lives, particularly while the rival firms are fighting so fiercely for an advantage. In WAR, relationships rarely exist in isolation from the wider battle, and personal choices can quickly become professional liabilities.

With Nicholas confronting St John, Morgan’s financial manoeuvres exposed and Johnny and Carla moving closer, episode 4 promises another instalment in which the divorce case becomes increasingly difficult to separate from the lives of the people caught up in it.

What to expect from WAR episode 4

The series has established a world of expensive offices, powerful clients and lawyers who are willing to fight dirty. Its appeal lies in the clash between the polished image of the legal elite and the ruthless tactics that emerge when enormous sums of money are involved.

Tonight’s episode brings the possibility of a settlement into focus, but the obstacles facing Taylor & Byrne suggest that peace will not come easily. Nicholas’s confrontation with St John could prove pivotal, while Morgan’s uncovered plans threaten to add another layer of conflict to an already bitter divorce.

And as Johnny and Carla’s relationship develops, the consequences may reach beyond the courtroom.

WAR episode 4 airs tonight, Friday 23 October, at 9pm on Sky Atlantic. In the US, the show is available on HBO MAX.
