Jaime Winstone will be forced to sit out this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing after suffering a torn abdominal muscle, with doctors advising the actress to take complete rest as she focuses on her recovery.
The actress, who is competing alongside professional dancer Carlos Gu, will not take to the dance floor on Saturday night after being left in considerable pain by the injury.
The news will come as a disappointment to Strictly fans, who will have to wait another week to see Jaime and Carlos perform again, provided she makes a sufficient recovery.
Confirming the news, a Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson said: “Due to injury, Jaime Winstone has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, she will not dance in this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing. In line with the rules of the show, Jaime and Carlos will receive a bye through to next week when it is hoped they will be able to dance again. We wish Jaime the very best as she continues her recovery.”
Under the show’s rules, Jaime and Carlos will automatically progress to next week’s programme rather than having to compete in this weekend’s dance-off or face elimination.
However, her return will depend on how well she recovers over the coming days and whether she receives medical clearance to resume training and performing.
Taking to the opportunity to address her absence, Jaime revealed the extent of her disappointment, admitting that she is devastated to miss a week of the competition after developing a painful abdominal injury.
Jaime Winstone said: “I am absolutely devastated not to be dancing this weekend due to a torn abdominal muscle. I am in considerable pain, and my doctors have advised complete rest to give my body the best possible chance to heal. As frustrating as it is, I have to put my health first and follow their advice to step away from dancing this week.
“I love every moment of dancing and performing with Carlos, and I am praying for a speedy recovery so that I can continue this magical journey.
“I want to thank everyone for their incredible support so far. It means more than you know. Wishing everyone on the show all the luck, love and strength for Saturday night and I hope to be back on that dance floor very soon. With love, Jaime.”
Despite the setback, Jaime has made it clear that she is determined to return to the competition as soon as she is able, expressing her hopes of getting back on the dance floor with Carlos next week.
Her absence means viewers will miss seeing the pair perform in the upcoming live show, although they will remain in the competition thanks to the bye granted under Strictly’s injury rules.
For now, the priority will be Jaime’s recovery, with the actress following medical advice and allowing her injury time to heal before returning to the demanding training schedule.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
