Coronation Street is bringing back two familiar faces as Sarah Platt’s murder trial takes centre stage, with former legal characters Robin Winchester and Georgina Romney set to return to Weatherfield.

The ITV soap is preparing for a major week of courtroom drama as Sarah Platt finds herself fighting for her future, and two actors previously seen in some of the show’s biggest legal storylines are returning for the storyline.

According to The Sun, James Weber-Brown and Amelia Curtis have reprised their respective roles for scenes connected to Sarah’s trial.

Both actors have appeared in Coronation Street as barristers, making their return particularly significant as the soap delves into the legal battle surrounding Sarah.

Who is representing Sarah Platt?

James Weber-Brown is returning as prosecution barrister Robin Winchester, a character he first played in 2017.

Robin became a familiar face during some of Coronation Street’s most high-profile courtroom stories and appeared intermittently on the soap through to 2023.

His most recent storyline saw him involved in the legal proceedings surrounding Justin Rutherford, who was convicted over the horrifying acid attack on Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor.

That devastating storyline saw Daisy targeted by Justin after he became dangerously obsessed with her, with Ryan also suffering horrific injuries after stepping in to protect her.

Robin’s return now comes as another Weatherfield resident faces the prospect of a lengthy legal battle.

Amelia Curtis returns as Georgina Romney

Amelia Curtis is also returning to Coronation Street, reprising her role as barrister Georgina Romney.

The actress previously appeared in the soap more than six years ago, with Georgina last seen during the trial of Yasmeen Nazir in 2020.

Yasmeen’s courtroom storyline centred on the attempted murder of her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe.

The storyline followed years of coercive and controlling behaviour from Geoff, with Yasmeen eventually reaching breaking point before the case went to court.

Georgina’s return means viewers will once again see a familiar face from one of the soap’s most memorable legal dramas.

Curtis will also be recognisable to Emmerdale viewers, having played Juliette Holiday in the ITV soap.

Amelia Curtis’ Emmerdale role explained

Curtis joined Emmerdale as Juliette Holiday, the biological mother of Jimmy King’s son Carl.

Juliette’s arrival came after a fertility clinic mix-up resulted in her being impregnated with Jimmy’s sperm rather than the sperm of her chosen donor.

The complicated storyline brought Juliette into the lives of Jimmy and his family as questions surrounding Carl’s biological parentage played out on screen.

Curtis last appeared in Emmerdale in 2021.

Now, her return to Coronation Street places her in the middle of another major legal storyline — this time as Sarah Platt’s case heads to court.

Sarah Platt’s murder trial takes centre stage

The returning barristers are expected to feature prominently across a week of episodes largely dedicated to Sarah’s trial.

The courtroom storyline represents a major turning point for Sarah, as viewers wait to discover whether she will be cleared or face the possibility of spending years behind bars.

Sarah has already endured a turbulent period in Weatherfield, and the trial threatens to have consequences far beyond the courtroom.

Her family and friends will be left waiting for the verdict as the evidence is examined and the prosecution and defence put forward their respective cases.

With Robin Winchester and Georgina Romney both back on screen, the soap is bringing in two characters with strong links to previous courtroom battles — adding another layer of familiarity to what promises to be a tense week.

The return of the legal duo also signals just how seriously Coronation Street is treating Sarah’s storyline, with the trial set to dominate the drama as her fate hangs in the balance.

Viewers will have to tune in to Coronation Street to discover whether Sarah can clear her name — or whether the murder trial will see her future in Weatherfield dramatically changed.
